If We Label Every Celeb As A Creep We’ll Never Be Able To Expose The Real Ones

I don’t know about you — but I’ve been waiting a long time for 2024. I’ve also been waiting a long time for the Epstein documents to be released.

Now that they’re finally here — and after spending many hours combing through them as if I was searching for lice in my unborn child’s head — I can’t help but wonder why we’ve been waiting for these documents in the first place, or if these documents actually matter at all.

Perhaps it’s the downfall of society, or the collapse of Hollywood in general that I’ve been waiting for. Not for it to be destroyed completely, but for it to be destroyed with the hopes that something new could be rebuilt. Something closer to the intentions it was founded on in the first place — which I’d like to believe was a platform for humans to tell their stories, a platform to inspire others to chase their dreams no matter how outlandish they may have seemed.

Maybe it’s the little girl in me who hopes the latter to be true, but I spent the greater part of my youth obsessed with Hollywood and wanting nothing more than to be a part of it. I even signed an agreement with my cousins when we were 10 years old that we would move to Los Angeles to pursue our dreams after watching one of the greatest films of all time — Romy & Michelle’s High School Reunion.

That little girl ended up moving to LA and followed her dream spending 10 years of her life working as a Publicist — which ended up feeling more like a glorified telemarketer dedicated to helping those with an oversized ego shrink it down to a size that would become easily digestible and lovable to the public — despite how unlovable they actually were.

It’s funny how we talk about chasing our dreams, but rarely do we speak out what happens after you catch your dream only to realize it was your nightmare.

During college I had a PR professor who once said that if we decided to pursue working in this industry it was important for us to maintain a moral line. A line that defined our integrity — a line that we would refuse to cross. She was honest when she said that line would move throughout the course of our career, but it would ultimately be up to us to determine where the end of that line really was.

I started to question that line when I realized I was working for the same PR firm that protected Harvey Weinstein and spearheaded #MeToo.

As I’ve slowly started moving out of an industry I no longer respect, I became angry that I was even a part of it in the first place. At one point I found myself doing what everyone else does and taking my anger to TikTok to expose the agency and every celeb that’s been complacent by continuing to align themselves with them.

After the first few videos, I started to realize I was channeling my anger in the wrong direction. The truth is many of these celebs are unable to speak out because their managers, agents and publicist have their hands positioned oh so strategically around their mouths. I read something recently that said if you can’t speak freely, then you need to be freed too.

If we want Hollywood to change we must stop demanding the celebs to do it and instead redirect our efforts to exposing those in power who are protecting and destroying them. They will continue to build them up only to watch them collapse and the monster will never starve until we stop feeding it.

With gratitude,
