If Only I Could Fix It

Not everything in life can be fixed

Photo by Anne Nygård on Unsplash

The things that tug at my heart are generally the things I cannot fix. Being a mother, it is innate to want to fix what is broken. However, in this world it is difficult to accept the realization that not everything is fixable.

Unless you are truly cold-hearted, you have things in your life that pain you at heart. Our pain varies from person to person depending on our background and experiences. What tugs at your heart?

There are three areas that cause me pain of heart; they are the homeless, those suffering with an addiction, and injustice.

Homelessness and Addiction

The homeless are no different than me. Unfortunately, they have had a run of bad things happen in their life. Many have made bad choices. Some have addictions of various kinds. Then, there are others who have experienced homelessness through no fault of their own.

Being in a situation where you have no place to rest your head can happen to anyone at any time. This pandemic is proof of that. Beware not to judge!

Personally, I came from a rough background and a poorer neighborhood. I was able to see up close and personal what happens to people because of addiction, loss of job, and other factors out of their control. I have seen the other side of the coin.

Read my links below for my viewpoint on homelessness along with my thoughts on addiction.

Addiction, whether alcohol or drugs, is a very complicated issue. Our community has lost many young ones to this disease. Tugging at your heart is putting it mildly.

I cannot fix these things. However, I can show compassion and empathy. When it is in my power to help…I will.

Injustice

This is another subject that I personally cannot fix. Injustice can be found at every level. From our prison system (including private prisons) to people getting the help they need in this system. What help? Legal, medical, financial — need I go on.

I guess you can say my heart goes out to the underdog. You use to hear that word used frequently. Not sure if it was a generational thing.

As I look at my own life, each day I realize how fortunate I am. Yes, to have a place to live, good food, and family is a blessing. I hope I never take any of these things for granted.

How about you? What tugs at your heart? Have you been able to help anyone recently?
