Summarize

If nothing changes externally then likely nothing has changed internally.

Salvation is an internal change in one’s life that creates an external change in the believer’s behavior.

A Biblical Christian worldview perspective — When saved, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us (Rom. 8:9) and we become a “new creation in Christ” (2 Cor. 5:17). Internal repentance and desire for the Lord should result in a change in our external behavior (Eph. 4:20:24). Further, the order of change is critical to a Biblical Christian worldview (Matthew 3:8). The internal change comes before the external. If the other way around, it is a false form of carnal Christianity, and, if there is no change, there is no salvation.

Romans 8:9 — You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.

2 Corinthians 5:17 — Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ephesians 2:20–24 But that is not the way you learned Christ! — assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

Ezekiel 11:19 — And I will give them one heart, and a new spirit I will put within them. I will remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh

POSTSCRIPT… From Paul Palmer… “Building on that, if you focus on the external over the internal, you make yourself into a hypocrite. You fall into the trap of trying to manage your behavior instead of changing it, and then in order to appear acceptable to other people instead of to God.”
