If I wasn’t a Writer

I’d be a Dancer.

Dancing on the bed by David Peterson

Kudos to Sherry McGuinn. She got me started . . .

Cuz when I’m at a loss for words, I get my groove on.

My mother was shocked when I told her I wanted to be a go-go cage girl, when I grew up.

I was a child during the Womens’ Movement and my mama didn’t want her daughter in a cage; but she didn’t understand the power of American Bandstand. It was my Saturday staple until it stopped airing in 1989 — despite marriage and children.

If I had known about Soul Train, which aired from 1971 to 2006, I would’ve been watching that too. Maybe it was on past my bedtime?

Dancing energizes me like nothing else. My best story ideas show up when I’m dancing. It is how I achieve flow. The truth is: I’ll will never give up dancing.

My go-to song is Simply Red’s Something Got Me Started.

If you have a heartbeat you can dance. Find your pulse and tap a counter-rhythm to that beat. This is where your soul resides.

When the dancing heats up, a circle forms and the dancers come out and show their moves. Then they start pointing to get the others to come out.

I am pointing to you Lori Brown :)

She wrote a whole blog to help me. I call that inspirational.

With love to Miss Tina Jackson, the best dance teacher ever.

And in loving adoration of the immortal Prince Roger Nelson. Kiss.
