I’d be joyfully packing my Louis Vuitton bags right now.

He’s brash and power-hungry, she’s reserved and spotlight-shy. That’s President Trump and Melania Trump for you. It’s been 4 years since Melania took over the East Wing and now she’s down to her last days there.

Melania had some enormous shoes to fill in when she took on the role of First Lady in 2016. Her predecessor, Michelle Obama had popularity ratings higher than even her husband, President Obama.

From get-go, Melania was compared with Michelle Obama whose charismatic personality enthralled all. Melania’s introverted nature, on the other hand, held less appeal. She was perceived as aloof, cold and emotionless.

She was mocked for everything from her looks to her accent to her clothes to her Christmas decorations to the handling of state dinners.

All I could think was “Why is the First Lady expected to behave like a 1950’s home maker?”

If Hillary Clinton became President in 2016, would First Husband Bill be expected to throw dinner parties or decorate for Christmas?

New York Post columnist Miranda Devine called out the media vehemently after Melania was slammed for wearing a white coat while unveiling White House Christmas decorations.

On the other hand, fashion writers had oohed and aahed over everything that Michelle Obama wore.

Devine claims criticisms of Melania are more vicious, personal, and unrelenting than any First Lady has endured. The reason may be down to her husband, President Trump.

She is guilty by marriage. She just can’t win.

It’s no secret that Donald Trump is obsessed with his daughter, Ivanka Trump. Right from the start, Melania Trump was sidelined and the Princess pushed forward.

There couldn’t be a more blatant case of outrageous nepotism than President Trump appointing his 35-year-old daughter and her husband as senior advisors to him.

Umm.. just asking, what’s their qualification to advise the President of a country? Apparently working in daddy’s organization and being a judge on ‘The Apprentice’ counts!

Ivanka Trump coyly stepped into the role, became pseudo First Lady and basked in the limelight.

Melania’s ‘Be Best’ campaign was ridiculed because her husband was the biggest bully in everyone’s eyes. Her low profile and visibility were constantly criticized. Where is she? Why isn’t she using her platform for more?

Critics fail to realize that Melania was not the one who stood for election or the one who promised to serve the country. It was her husband, Donald Trump. It was his self-seeking ambition, not hers. We shouldn’t be expecting her to turn into a political spouse if that doesn’t interest her.

Devine explains that Melania has not gone down the same road of arrogant overreach as some other former First Ladies have.

“Melania has the humility to understand that she is not the main game. Such command of ego is the first requirement of a First Lady.”

Secret recordings made by Melania’s former advisor Stephanie Winstson Wolkoff reveal her frustration at being criticized for her husband’s policy of separating families.

“People say I am complicit with him, that I support him. I was trying to get the kids united with the moms. But I didn’t have a chance, it needs to go through the process and the law.”

Imagine being criticized or held responsible for everything your crazy spouse did or said or tweeted at 2 am. It’s unfair.

Melania received a lot of hate for her infamous jacket which she wore to the border detentions center with the messaging ‘Really I don’t care, do you?’ on it. She later clarified that it was not meant for the children but for the left-wing media who were criticizing her.

President Trump and Melania’s marriage has been described as a transactional marriage. I say “Good for you Melania! Hope you negotiated that prenup to the 9's!”

She’s glamorous arm candy for him. Barron and she bring some warm shades to the orange man. In exchange, she and her son will be well taken care of financially.

I believe her husband’s affairs didn’t catch her off guard. She exactly knew the man he was. I’m sure as soon as the presidency is over, those divorce papers will be reaching Trump. For now, she’s just keeping her side of the bargain.

It’s refreshing that she doesn’t make any pretenses about her relationship with President Trump, unlike previous First Ladies. She often travels in separate cars and very visibly dodges his public displays of affection, swatting his hand away.

She is really good at social distancing from this virus if you ask me!

Journalist Devine writes, “Whatever you think of her husband, you can’t say she has behaved with anything but dignity in her role, despite ugly provocations, which include attacks on her young son, Barron.”

Melania, Congratulations! You survived 4 years in the White House fishbowl. Now it’s time to check out and begin your life.
