If All Jobs Paid The Same
30-Day Writing Challenge, Day Twenty-Five
Most of us devote much time trying to figure out where all the pieces fit.
“Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” — Mark Twain
If all jobs were paid the same, I would choose to remain in the hospitality and service industry. I realize this might sound like a boring answer, but it’s my honest answer. I like what I do because it gives me more than financial payment. It gives me inner satisfaction.
I enjoy helping others. I also enjoy serving others which is how I began my career in the restaurant industry. It is a fascinating field. I met many different and interesting people, including celebrities. Both careers have flexible hours, which is important to me.
The service industry is a physical job. I ran around various restaurants, from diners to five-star hotels. It involves hard physical work.
The job description is the same, no matter which restaurant. Receiving the correct food order from the customer and delivering it to the customer on time. For anyone who has not had the experience of being a server, there are many variables involved.
It can flow smoothly, or it can be a complete shipwreck of errors. The server receives all the rewards or criticism. No matter how it goes, the customer is always right.
It takes a lot of character, something akin to having a role in a play. I loved my role because each customer was different. I discovered ways to keep the balance in my job interesting. I was never overweight because I was always moving or standing. It kept me young. Sometimes I miss it.
In my current career, I like being a clinical therapist. I enjoy helping others, and I like the variables in psychology. There are many different techniques and a myriad of information to discover. It is never boring.
I have always had a passion for helping others. I try to help clients feel comfortable, open, and safe. Therapy challenges clients to self-reflect and use their strengths to discover solutions. I encourage clients to embrace the changes that will help them thrive. I want to help clients enjoy their lives to the fullest.
Clients feel they are successful with me because I help them to feel empowered. They feel they have been heard and validated.
In summary, if all jobs were paid the same, I would want to work in both industries. There are similarities between both that I enjoy. I enjoy meeting different people. I would not want to hide away in some office somewhere. I want to be social. I am a people person!
How about you? Leave me a comment and tell me about the job of your dreams.
Sending love and light, and blessings to everyone.
