IDF tried to pre-emptively invade Lebanon last night, but Hezbollah shot down their attempts, however this is only the beginning.
Last night, the IDF, or rather two small units, tried to invade Lebanon on Sunday night. These were two attempts made by the IDF and they were done on separate occasions.
The first one was an infiltration attempt by IDF forces to enter the Wadi Qatamoun area which is the opposite of Rmeish. It was probably done by ordinary soldiers and Hezbollah responded with firing missiles.
The second attempt which was more important, was by the Golani Brigade, the IDF’s elite special forces and Hezbollah responded to it by detonating a trap that they stumbled upon, causing an explosion and on top of that hit them with artillery shells.
They confirmed that it was a direct hit to their position.
Now what does all this represent? It represents a new phase of the war. With the Airstrikes happening in Southern Lebanon, it is a new strategy by the IDF to infiltrate the defenses and understand what Hezbollah’s response will be to an invasion.
Bare in mind, Hezbollah responded but for the IDF it was a test and Hezbollah’s response was data for them, then Hezbollah responded even more by targeting an IDF barrack with artillery shells.
But we will probably see more and more escalation. The IDF will try to infiltrate in Lebanon and Hezbollah’s position is defensive, because they have been laying out their rocket infrastructure on the border.
Once the rocket infrastructure has been constructed, they’ll have the capability to simultaneously launch 1000 rockets/missiles per day for a total of 120 days, till they deplete their stock.
And yes this will be devastating for Israel.
That’s probably why they want to start a ground invasion as soon as possible, because they don’t want Hezbollah to have the opportunity to pre-emptively strike them.
Keep Hezbollah busy on the border with small probe missions, whilst carrying out airstrikes on their position, whilst their attention is diverted.
But things rarely go to plan and these probing missions will eventually turn out into a full-scale invasion but it’ll be to the detriment of Israel.
Why? Because they’re in Hezbollah’s home turf. It’s mainly trees, forests and a complex tunnel network that’s far more complex than the one Hamas has in Gaza and the IDF weren’t able to expose all of it’s tunnel network in Gaza, only a small portion of it.
The terrain is with Hezbollah and they’ve set it up in such a way that they can make war a true hell for any invading army. At the same time rain down missiles on them.
But we’ll have to see what happens.
Thanks for reading.
