I’d Rather — Write About It

As writers one of the things I love most is that we can write about it all.
Everything.
The good, bad, ugly, insane, crazy, unexplained, explained, awful, sad, exuberantly joyful, heart wrenching stuff that is life.
We get to write about it.
This is a wonderful thing to remind ourselves when we get into weird funks and doubts about our writing.
My non-writer friends don’t have this gift.
They don’t have this wonderful way of getting their thoughts out of them.
(Well, many do drink or eat chocolate or gamble or binge-watch Netflix or play non stop games on their phones or shop obsessively or or or...)
But, all of those behaviors means they bottle it up.
We get to purge it all.
We writers are the deep sea divers. We want to explore. We go under the water.
We come up for air with our snorkels on and smiles on our faces, with a new ‘meaning’ in our hands — dripping wet with wonder.
I used to sing for a living but now instead of singing, Id rather write about singing.
I used to sell my art around the country at Art Festivals but instead of selling my art I’d rather write about how I felt selling art.
Instead of arguing with my 84 year old mom on the phone Id prefer to write about her and how insane she still is at her age .
Instead of pondering why my boyfriend seems uptight today and screams “WHY didn't you put the toilet paper roll on!??!” I’d rather go write about it.
I came to the realization today that instead of doing almost ANYTHING at all, for some reason — I’d prefer to WRITE ABOUT IT.
So, what does this mean?? Am I now officially a ‘real’ writer who wants to write more than doing almost anything else?
Do I now get a nice ‘official writer certificate’? Do I win a prize for figuring this all out, for coming to this new awareness?
This is just something I’m pondering today.
I’d rather write about this new awareness that I am pondering right now. (OH, and we even get to write about what we’re pondering!?)
OMG — the ideas are endless!!
Ha-ha.
