Iceberg’s Poetry Publication Launch

Greetings!

Come one, come all. Come a few. This marks the beginning of a brand new poetry publication on Medium, called Iceberg’s Poetry. The name is inspired by the iceberg theory of writing, where the overall message is obscured, but the light given off by its meaning will shine through to the words that bubble up on the page (eh, the screen in this case). The cloud left around the reader should be thicker than the ink.

Why am I doing this?

I am creating this publication because I feel that there is no town square for this type of writing to be seen and appreciated, and searching it out is a tired endeavor. The goal is to erect a home for poems and their poets to show and embrace their experiences and the way that they see the world in a personal, mature, subjective manner. Think of it as a monument… that sticks out of water.

What kind of writing is hosted here?

This is not a place for in-your-face, flowery, "inspirational" poetry. The focus will be on art that is cognizant and intentional. Your personality should shine through your words, no matter how exuberantly or blandly it may be delivered. Something must be calling from under the surface.

Extension to the publication: well-done concrete/experimental poetry will also be accepted, as I feel that it lacks a home on Medium.

Iceberg’s Poetry is intended to have a certain directionality to it. It is likely to be insular, and a bit of a cool kids club. You know, like being in the philosophy club and having hair over your eyes kind of cool. That’s cool, right? Right?!

Submissions will be evaluated thoroughly, and acceptance will be based on the appeal to the spine. This is my first time doing this, so please forgive any hiccups. I will be reaching out to some poets to get a foundation going, if they are willing. This will also serve as a base for me to get more in touch with the community of writers here, and I’m excited about that.
