Iceberg
A short poem about the joys and perils of that which is hidden
She was a silver diamond cast in a frigid sea he set course for her mystic glow til closer he could see
Breaks and fissures to explore a mystery unsolved, yet dark night, starlight, aged rust, clear ice threw bright sparks when they met
Even as she melted deep she burned him at his core her greater part beneath the waves beguiled him all the more
My jagged hidden self, she said will tear you deep, you know a shrug, a tear, a smile, he said I’ll miss you when you go
With dawn’s first rays, she drifts away he floats scarred and alone but in the heart of memory her light still guides him home
