ICC Banned Cricket In Sri Lanka
Out field drama after the on field drama
If you are familiar with either Sri Lanka or cricket, you may have just learned some breaking news. The International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of cricket, has banned Sri Lanka until further notice.
This implies that Sri Lanka is currently not a member of the ICC, and as a result, the country cannot participate in any international cricket events
If you are not familiar with cricket, it is a ball and bat game invented by England and spread through their colonized countries. Currently, the South Asian region is the biggest market for cricket.
As a cricket fan, I felt it was my responsibility to shed some light on this incident, even though it was beyond my comfort zone.
Sri Lanka has displayed one of its worst performances in this ongoing Cricket World Cup. Yesterday, we played our last group stage match, and with two wins out of a total of nine matches, Sri Lanka is currently placed in the ninth position.
All cricket fans were disappointed with the performance of our team, and their dissatisfaction was directed towards the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, the ruling body of Sri Lanka. Especially concerning the infamous corruption incidents involving key officials in charge.
While the anger is growing, the Sports Minister tried to dissolve the Sri Lanka Cricket board and appointed an Interim Committee. Before the Interim Committee could commence its work, the Sri Lankan high court issued a decision to hold the appointment.
So, the Sports Minister delivered a powerful speech at the parliament, revealing allegations against the previous Cricket Board and justifying his appointment. As a result, the entire parliament rallied behind him, a first-time occurrence in recent times, and voted to dissolve the Cricket Board.
Labeling this as political interference, the International Cricket Council banned Sri Lanka Cricket until further notice, just a few hours after our team returned home following the defeat.
A week before, this would have been devastating news, but now we don’t mind it because we are fed up with this nonsense. We can tolerate defeats, but not this drama.
So, I am going to sit back and enjoy this drama.
Forgive me, my non-cricketing friends, for this unusual post, but I thought it is my duty to make some explanation in this regard.
