I Wrote Outside of My Niche for One Month
Here’s what happened
If you’ve been following me and reading my stories, you would know that I mostly wrote about health, self-improvement, and writing.
Until the war in Ukraine started.
Since the invasion, I switched my gears and have been writing about the war ever since. The conflict was too much for me to handle and I felt compelled to write about it. Ukraine was on my mind 24/7.
What has been going on in Ukraine has been disturbing to me, and I can’t hold myself back from writing about it.
I felt compelled to share my knowledge, facts, and opinion about the war.
Even though I knew my articles wouldn’t affect the outcomes of the war, I found immense relief knowing I could at least write about it. Writing articles about the war was one way I could show my support for Ukraine.
As a result of my stepping out of my niche, a few unexpected things caught me by surprise.
My earnings increased
Ironically, my monthly earnings went up. Not only that, half of the articles I wrote on political topics were distributed. For me, it’s quite an accomplishment considering I’d rarely written on these topics before, and up until then, I was mostly writing within my niche topics such as health, self-improvement, and writing.
I gained more followers
Stepping outside of my niche and writing about political topics helped me widen my reach — I attracted a new audience and gained more followers. My articles, most of which were opinion pieces, received higher engagement than my regular articles.
I gained new knowledge
Also, sharing my perspective about the war helped me liberate my mind from worrying thoughts about the conflict. I gained more knowledge about the world and broadened my understanding of worldly events.
The bottom line
My message here is, don’t limit yourself to writing on just one niche. If you feel compelled to write on a particular topic, then go for it. If you find you don’t know enough information to write about it, then do more research to gain more knowledge about the topic. The internet is at your fingertips.
Don’t write about what’s popular, write about what you love and you’ll find success.
