I wrote a story that fits in one publication I’m not a writer for

How long should I wait for them to add me as a writer before submitting a story somewhere else? Or self-publishing?

As bloggers and writers, we often have this question in mind. A story pops out of your fingers and you think it’d be great for that certain publication, but you are not a writer for them yet. How long should we wait for the answer before knocking on the doors of other publications? It’s nerve-wracking.

I wrote a story that fits perfectly into this one publication, where I’m not a writer as this is the first time I’m writing on that subject. I then waited for days to be added as a writer and now I’m banging my head on what to do. Will not wait long enough and switching to another publication hurt the stats of the story? Or even worse, if I self-publish will the story have any views?

I know that writers are talking a lot about why someone should self-publish and how it’s good for making money. The story I wrote is really niche which is why I want to submit it to the publication and not self-publish.

I’ve checked their submission guidelines hundreds of times and there is no mention on how long you should wait to be added as a writer, only about when you are a writer and submit a story.

I’m curious about what would you do in this situation? Am I overreacting and being impatient?
