I Write To Be Held — To Be Loved
I have more than I need of everything, except the above, of which there can never be enough.
Shiverings mutter and rise from the glassy ocean’s surface, under a scaffolding of blue. A man waits on the petticoat shoreline as he’s waited so many times.
He does not love, though full of passion, and cares nothing for the things one cares for, fleeing from every moral law, knowing with a disturbing authority, and the force from within his soul, that she will come.
Or has that dream grown cold?
It was a dream once swift and intense. Orchestrated by the waning perfume of breaking hearts. Only a poet could create a dream in which a face holds all man’s hopes and fantasies.
The unrivaled beauty of the muse beneath the water’s clothing. You leave me only for sleep.
Now, writing late into the night, a new love has given rise to passion. Yes, this old man, a pirate of old, a torn and weary traveler of the high seas, is with the woman with whom his journey will end.
For a while my mind was in torment, the creativity needed to overcome the reality. Our heartbreak is so little in the eons of time. What we, each of us, give to history cannot be judged by its value but by the love we give back.
I am now working toward one last challenge, to play, to amuse, to adore, to be lost in the exquisiteness of creativity, to be held tightly and safely in the arms of those who travel with me.
