I worked two and a half years for a job I was not too fond of. Part one

Anybody reading this story should not necessarily take this as advice, but you should carefully evaluate your decisions on where you work.

You may have more of a chance to get a better job than the job I had for two and a half years, which felt like an eternity.

But for anyone who reads this, if you have ever been in this situation, you are not alone.

July 2018

My story begins with applying to countless jobs my senior year and being turned down numerous times because I did not have enough experience, even though these were entry-level jobs, and it was not like I was shooting for the moon.

I was realistic and applied for every job, including McDonald’s, which I wrote about how that interview went and was my first story here on Medium.

But anyway I finally found a job as I went to a career fair and went to numerous tables and the representatives from the company gave me their business cards.

I then came across a table for FedEx Ground, and they handed a card and told me to apply online.

I used the computer at school to apply in May, but I got a call two months later, in July, for the interview.

Now I want to explain the process of being hired at FedEx Ground like any other job. First, you fill out the application, schedule the interview and do the background check.

After I finished my application on the school computer in May, I finally received a call in July from the hr department that told me to schedule an interview at FedEx, and I did schedule the interview.

I did the interview and didn’t think I did well for some reason, but I was told they would do a background check and they should only take a couple of days for me.

It did, as I didn’t have any arrests before. A couple of days after the interview, I got a call from the hr department telling me something on my application was expired, and I might have to do the process over again.

But they told me they would try to fix this and put in the system that I had done the interview and the background check, so I won’t have to repeat the whole process.

But the next day, I was on the phone with the hr department, and someone else was speaking on her behalf.

So I had to explain the situation to her, and she told me the woman told her I had to complete the whole application process again, including the interview and the background check; This should have been a red flag to me about this job.

It could have saved me from a lot of emotional distress down the line, but I didn’t think this way at the start.

But now I know when to see the signs and go with my gut. Anyway, I did complete the hiring process over again, and when I went to the interview, I told the person interviewing me what had happened.

He apologized to me on behalf of this woman in hr, as I also mentioned her name.

Talking about this incident helped me get the job, but then again, maybe they were hiring many people because they were done building the new FedEx warehouse, which was much bigger than any of their other warehouses.

At that time, my mentality was that I got a job no one else was going to give me a job.

I will write part two that will go more in-depth with my experience working for FedEx Ground.
