I Wish
A Poem
I wish I could see you in the morning Every morning So my day would start with light even if my dreams were lost in darkness
I wish I could stretch during the night, but get blocked by your body Lying still next to mine, forever
I wish I could see you across the room and know that it was our room, in our house A life of our own making
I wish I could plant our love in a garden, next to our house and watch it grow The branches intertwined as versions of us that twist together, not out of need, but out of want
I wish I could listen to the rain and know that those particular raindrops were only for us
I wish I could see you for the first time again and know the feeling of hope
I wish I could light a candle, to represent our love, and send it up into the sky where it would float amongst the clouds, looking back down on us, lit by the fire that burns between us
I wish I could see your face right now because I’ve known a lot of things in my life, but you, you are the truth
