I Will Not Bow
An Ode to DIB
Ever heard of DIB?
DIB’s stands for Diversity Inclusion and Belonging.
I have previously written about Diversity and Inclusion, today I will explore the third part of the trio: Belonging.
Human beings, we crave belonging to guarantee our balance and wellness. It is among the 6 fundamental human needs (4. => connection/love). Some may be convinced that they don’t need to belong but if you are honest with your deeper self, you know it feels safe to be part of something bigger than the self. Together we are stronger.
Alone you go fast but together we go far. — African Proverb
No matter how singular we may each be, by unifying our diverse strengths we can do a longer ride than by oneself.
Nowadays people, organisations and institutions aim to be more and more diversified, but what they often miss is that diversity comes with a baggage that it is important to consider, accept and integrate. As long as this isn’t taken into account and internalise by people, organisations and institutions; the good intention of diversity is guaranteed to hit the wall.
I Will Not Bow To Belong
You want to integrate me for diversity but my singularity bothers you?
You thought I would bow down and deny my own self to blend in?
Well, that ain’t gonna happen. It is the whole package or nothing.
My wholeness and mystery isn’t something to fear nor gossip about, but to be curious about, ask questions openly.
I will not bow down to your ways without a word.
You think you can easily reduce me to a past rooted in pain?
I may go through pain yes, but I will keep my head up and shoulders straight until I return to dust.
You thought I would say amen to all your non sense?
No, I will not bow to your earthly fleeting “intelligence”.
As long as I have the God’s gift of life, and the right to express,
I will speak and write down my truths.
Your approval isn’t anymore a necessity as it used to be,
I discovered I could live well and better without it.
Dr Mehmet Yildiz — this was my 30th piece as a part of the 30 days writing challenge. It was a delight and great practice. It definitely gave me the boost necessary to produce and create on a daily basis and I believe this will serve and be beneficial for my writing in many ways moving forwards. Thank you so much for your dedication to the publication Illumination. You are a true mentor and I am grateful for all the work you do on a daily basis. Keep shining your light of knowledge, experience and expertise among all of us writers of the publication. Be blessed abundantly.
Until next time dear reader, thank you for your time and take good care.
One love ✨💜
