I Will Be Donating My Medium Earnings To Charity This Ramadan

Starting from today — Monday 12th April 2021.

(This is a great way for you to indirectly donate and help those in need, too. All you have to do is read my stories.)

Tonight officially marks the start of Ramadan this year. Ramadan is a holy month where Muslims all around the world fast from dawn to dusk.

Fasting is 1 of the 5 Pillars of Islam, meaning it is a religious duty that allows Muslims to become closer to God and identify with the poor and needy.

Ramadan is a holy month that Muslims look forward to all year round. The blessed month is filled with endless opportunities to earn blessings and to truly become better people. One way we try to do better is by increasing our charity and helping those in need.

With that being said, I thought this would be the perfect time to start a little project in which I donate my Medium earnings to help those in need.

For the last couple of years, I’ve worked on a fundraising project each year. Last year, we fundraised to sponsor 7 orphans by writing children’s stories on muslimstorybook.com. The year before, we raised money to provide water to those in need.

As I’ve only recently started taking Medium seriously, I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate it into my fundraising this year.

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. All the money I earn this Ramadan from the Medium Partner Program (from members reading my stories) will be donated.
  2. At the end of Ramadan, I will share the total raised.
  3. I will update this article to include the stories I write below.
  4. Once I’ve received the money, I will be donating it in GBP £ (I live in the UK).
  5. Ramadan starts on the evening of April 12th and lasts for 29–30 days, so Eid should be around May 12th/13th. I should receive half of my earnings (earned from April 12–30th) on May 8th and the other half (earned from May 1–12/13th) on June 8th, as these are Medium’s payout days.
  6. The money will be donated to a charity once I’ve received the full amount (on June 8th). I will share proof.
  7. The charity we donate to will depend on how much money is raised. For example, a water hand pump costs £150, whereas another project will cost more/less. It depends on how much we raise.
  8. I’ve only been taking Medium seriously for the past few weeks, so my earnings so far are relatively low ($0.90 in total). There’s a lot of work to be done if we’re going to raise big amounts! Of course, I’m hoping to raise as much as possible, so I’ll be sharing multiple new posts every day, God willing. I’ve already started preparing.

I thought this could be a nice way of challenging myself to write more, while also helping those in need. I’m sharing my pledge publicly as doing so will encourage me to really try to raise as much money as possible, and I’ll be held accountable, as I’ve shared it publicly. I guess I’m also hoping that people will be more willing to ‘donate’ their time, to help those in need.

In terms of what I’ll be writing, my writing really does vary. I write about lots of different things, including poetry, motivation, life and other stuff. Essentially, I like using my writing to motivate and inspire others, so this should be a great project.
