WEEKLY REVIEW INCLUDING MEDIUM EARNINGS
I Went Up North: Two Weeks in the Life of a Science Fiction Writer
3rd March 2024
We planned to visit my daughter who’s at university in Leeds, and I snagged us a BOGOFF deal on a hotel in Bradford. As I was going up North, I decided to go up early and have a couple of days in Derby with my parents. And on the way home we decided to visit our son who’s at university in Birmingham.
What an adventure.

What I Did and Didn’t Get Done

- Went to walking club but got stood up! I really need to check the WhatsApp because it got cancelled because of rain
- Went to Mah Jong
- Got invited to Film Club
- Went on an ongoing reading adventure to the British Museum with a German theme, as I’m reading a WW2 book (for book club, don’t get me started)
- Wrote fiction on not many days.
- Medium on 10 days
- Had two fantastic curries in Bradford. We had breakfast in the hotel, so I didn’t get a Desi breakfast. (Desi means from the Indian subcontinent: new word to me)
I’m Thinking About Becoming a Medium Publisher
Well, in fact, I am already. During my first week on Medium, I was all over it and created: Future Tales.
But yesterday I discovered that you can apply to be a boost nominator if you’re a Medium publisher who has a publication open to other writers.
So, I thought I might try.
I love fiction and poetry, especially short form. I’ve seen so much great genre content here on Medium.
Especially drabbles, which are exactly 100 words. They’re very hard to do well, and there are some real experts here.
Anyhoo, I have some thinking to do.
If you’d like to, you can follow my publication here. It’s just my stories at the moment.
Are you a Medium publisher? How much work is it? Are you a boost nominator? What are your thoughts or advice for me?
