I Went For A Nature Walk And This is What Happened to Me.

Enjoy your walk but be careful at the entrance of the gate

I went for a walk in the park

Last evening, From my window I saw and heard birds chirping away. The sun was setting and quite radiant and I was sitting and editing some posts. I realized that it was my time to pack up and take my break and go for a walk.

I wore my walking shoes and mask and decided to take a nice long walk in a park close to the park I normally go to.

This made me move away to another park close by. The park was very inviting. There were beautiful flowers over there. I heard the cuckoo making a wonderful sound ko ho, ko ho. There were lots of squirrels there too. At the far end, I could see some swings.

There was an open gym there and many kids were playing over there. I felt very happy when I saw the happy faces of the children and almost felt that I am a kid again looking at their innocent faces. They enjoy the moment. They are present there and they are oblivious of people walking around.

I watched them intently from far and began thinking about love, positivity, mutual respect, and so on. So many wonderful things and made a promise to myself that I would come here for a picnic with friends someday while the flowers are still glowing. I walked on completely immersed in my thoughts peacefully.

Picture of Marigolds clicked by the author.

Suddenly I saw beds full of Marigolds. The yellows were full of color. The flowers were smiling and making the environment so cheerful. I spent some time there enjoying nature.

It was time to leave as it was getting dark and I decided to leave.

What happened at the exit to me?

At the exit gate of the park, I beckoned to the security guard to open the boom barrier to let me pass and move out. He raised it and I was leaving but the iron rod of the barrier made a large sound as it hit my head.

The automatic boom barrier was not working and it was being manually operated by the security guard. He was not careful. He raised the barrier a little and then got busy on the phone and dropped the barrier on my head.

My head under my hair was swollen. One of the guards felt very sorry and he started rubbing my head. The other guard who dropped the bar kept saying that he was sorry he was on the phone. Clearly, it was a dereliction of duty.

I let it pass. I could have complained. My whole body was under shock and my head started spinning. I was aghast!

With great difficulty, I started walking back to my home. I could barely see. My eyes were watering. I was walking slowly not knowing whether I was even taking steps or gliding.

Somehow, I managed to return. I did some cold compress and then alternated with hot water. After some time I was relieved. I took a pain killer and ate my dinner a little early.

Then I rested. By the morning, I could see swelling under my hair but fortunately, the bump on my forehead was not so obvious.

What are the learnings from this incident?

#1. We should be careful at an entrance or an exit. Security guards may exist but we should be careful ourselves.

#2. Accidents happen only once and we are unaware as to when they may happen in our lives and we must not let our guards down at any time.

#3. The security guard was apologetic. I remember I was a little upset by his carelessness. However, in such circumstances, we should be cool and not start shouting or getting angry. Calm and collected you win the race.

#4. I also learned that duty in life is very important. When we are on any duty we should be focused and our mind should not waver here and there to cause harm to another person. The security guard was on the phone when he was on duty. Not only did he cause harm to me but he could also be thrown out and would lose his job for dereliction of duty.

To conclude:

My head is hurting and will probably do so for a number of days. The bright thing is that I am fine. My eyes are intact and my brain seems clear. I can smile and talk.

What are the three important things that I am thinking about? I am looking at the bright and positive side of life.

I am grateful

I am thankful

I am blessed

I am fine and in good health and thankful to the Almighty for having saved me from a great disaster. It is like I am watching a rainbow in my life. It was an experience in my life. A miracle that I am safe and sound.🙏🌈

The following words of Roy T. Bennett soothed my mind

“Be thankful for everything that happens in your life; it’s all an experience.”

I would like to give a shout-out to David Acaster for taking a picture of a frog and giving some facts about frogs. One of them is that they can hold their breath underwater for a long time.
