I Was The Happiest When I Lived In A Garage

I lived in my aunt’s garage from kindergarten to 4th grade

My dad lost his job right before I was born, and he found one four hours away from our hometown. We needed to pack up and move closer to my dad’s job. We bought an apartment but after a while, we moved into my mom’s sister’s garage.

It wasn’t a typical garage attached to a house. My aunt lived on a ranch where she built mini houses scattered around the ranch. We happened to live in a mini house attached to a garage.

Open Land Everywhere

I was never bored living on a ranch. I think I was so gosh darn happy was because I was surrounded by trees, animals, and mountains. I would go on long walks for hours and be accompanied by the beautiful blue sky. I would see an occasional deer stroll by. My favorite activity was looking for tiny lizards and keeping them as pets. Unless my mom found out and made me release them again.

Family Time Was All The Time

Living with my aunt is an experience I will cherish forever. My aunt was like a second mom to me. My two cousins were like two extra siblings along with my brother. We would always have someone to play with. We would spend most of our days exploring the ranch. Every day was an adventure it was even better because I had my family with me.

Grateful For The Little Things

My parents weren’t able to get a house until I was in the 4th grade. It wasn’t until my mom got a steady job to help out that we were able to live more comfortably. I didn’t feel that needed to buy many toys anyway because I had everything I ever needed. It didn’t feel that there was anything missing because what I needed most was my family.

I loved living with my aunt but the crime in town was getting worse. The kids at school were becoming violent. We had a huge problem with bullying, seriously it was the twilight zone with how that school was run. It was the early 2000’s it was a different time. I ended up moving to a different town in the 4th grade. I missed living with my aunt and cousins. Those are memories I will cherish forever. It was a point in my life when I felt having less made me appreciate more.
