I Was Put Off By the Length of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey & Valhalla Until I Did This!

Sometimes I amaze even myself!

As far back as I can remember, there were games that were long and long for a reason, the longevity always kept aspects of the game fresh leaving you wanting more. Back when I first got into gaming, I didn’t really care about how long it took me to beat a game, so long as I did.

I’m replaying Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and almost completely through the main story, I’m about, if I had to guess, 64% done. I’ve found myself doing sidequest after sidequest, jumping ahead in order to stay on top of the action and be ready for whatever came.

However, lately I’ve been growing bored with the game because I’m doing many of the sidequests before going back to the main story. I went through this in Valhalla too and got to a point where I felt my attention waning, finding it hard to keep focus.

I’ve now been working on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey for the last month and 10 days, I’m happy to be back playing one of my favorite Assassin’s Creed games of all time but sometimes I’m put off how long it is or can be.

I did some research on Assassin’s Creed Mirage and what I love about that is that the game only has 4 sidequests and a lengthy main quest, I can deal with that and can’t wait to play the game in more intrigue detail.

But as I was playing last night, I came up with a way that I can shorten the amount of sidequests I do without getting bored. First, I’ll go toward whatever main story objective there is. As I’m journeying to that main story objective, I’ll stop off at a nearby “?”, do it then move onto the aforementioned objective.

Now that I reflect upon it, I did this in Valhalla too, I was just so consumed with wanting to do all of the sidequests before doing the main story that I often got put off by how much time I felt I was wasting. I mean, getting prepared is what it is, but sometimes concentrating on the sidequests too much can often turn you off from the main game. I see that for what it is.

At times I felt like I was being crushed under the sidequest weight of both games, it got to be too much to the point where I just felt like stopping but both are good games and I’d dare say ‘experimental prototypes’ created for the purpose of creating an awesome adventure across lands aplenty. I can’t get mad at that nor will I.

Yes, Mirage is shorter by comparison, and Valhalla, Odyssey, both lengthy but make no mistake I’ll stand by Odyssey and Valhalla til my dying day and beyond.

I even said that after I beat both games, which I did with Valhalla already, and as I’ll do with Odyssey, I said I wasn’t going to play either game again for a very long time.

But the problem with making a promise of that caliber is that there is so much good about the game that keeps you coming back for more whether its eliminating cultists or the legendary animals or even just the different places you go and sail to.

So if you’re replaying either game or even playing Mirage right now, this tip can help out there as well. The way I figure it, if you’re heading toward a main story objective, why not stop over at a nearby “?” and see what its all about. Worst case, its a waste of time but 10 times out 10, it’s not.

Also, keep in mind too that a lot of the main story questline will send you off in various directions and many of the ‘directions’ will be right next to, near or right at a “?”. So whether you choose to unearth a “?” before continuing the main questline or do it as you’re going from place to place in said questline, you’ll cover every piece of land and locale.

But, in the off chance that the main questline doesn’t take you to some of the “?”/locales, just give them the attention you didn’t get to while doing the main questline. At worst, those locales you didn’t unearth during, will be the last things you do before you leave that particular island or place.

That way, you don’t have to spend more time than you want to doing sidequests if you’re feeling eager about moving the story along. From experience.
