I want to live like Titus. Off-grid away from society, a dream not so far away

A friend and my family sent me the same YouTube video two days ago.

I am horrible at opening links but I will eventually get around to it. Y

et before I watched the video, my family said, ¨Sara, he’s looking for a girlfriend, but he’s a bit too far out there, even for you¨.

It means my family knows I live on my own island, so if someone is too far, you know it’s a bit of a reach. Then my friend sends me a screenshot and says he’s living your life or something to that effect.

So I finally thought, ok, two people have messaged me about this video; what the heck is it, and why is everyone thinking of me when they send it?

Last night I sat and opened it, and for an hour straight, I could not take my eyes off of Titus. Not in a, he’s such a cute way, but in admiration, and he is living the life I want to live, and I, of course, had a play-by-play minute dialogue with my friend and family about the video.

My cousin said he’s perfect but a bit too religious; I say well, if you remove heavenly father and say the universe, we are speaking the same language. If you remove, I pray to my lord, with I pray to whoever is listing, we are on the same page.

However, I learned from this video that however you want and choose to live your life, it is all possible.

So what am I referring to?

A YouTuber named Peter Santenello goes to remote places in the US and interviews people or looks for exciting things and people. He found Titus living in Rural Appalachia, so to put this into perspective, Titus is living an hour away from where I grew up in Kentucky, aka the boonies.

He uses a horse and carriage to get around, he is not Amish, but all his neighbors are. He uses a horse to plow his fields and does not have electricity.

When I grew up, we used a horse to plow our fields, but we did have electricity and a car. I, however, want to go back to living the way Titus does. He takes a bath, does his dishes in the crick, and grows all his food, except salt and dog food, which he buys at the store (spending around 140 dollars a month).

He has a landline phone, which he shares with a neighbor, and does not care to participate in ¨society, ¨ yet he also is very aware of what is happening around him. He does not have any form of identity and wears shoes only in the winter.

Titus is 31 years old and has lived this lifestyle for eight years. He is a joy to watch as he climbs and hangs from trees; there is no surprise the video has almost 3 million views now.

It made my entire family and friends think of me because this is my direction. I have even debated if I want electricity; I lean toward no, especially to be free from the humdrum of social media and do my work when I can find a connection — living off as little as possible, buying books, and teaching myself how to go back to the basics.

It sounds so backward that I have to teach myself to live like the old days.

Yet we are all so programmed that we can’t survive without the internet; we can. We are programmed that we can’t live without electricity; we can.

If you have water or a crick running on your property, a way to grow food, chickens for some eggs. Yet Titus lives a plant-based life, eating what he produces. Even his horses look happy as his dog runs beside the carriage.

A lifestyle that so many of us love to watch, but we can’t get rid of our comforts. Living out of a backpack for the past five years has trained me for this type of lifestyle, the peace and tranquility, hard work, and sweat, but at the end of the day, knowing the work you do is for you.

Your work provides nutrition to your body; you are not dependent on the grid, the supermarket, or wifi.

A way to live close to nature, and I know everyone in my inner circle once thought I was crazy, and my parents were called crazy I now know that people only call others crazy when they have a bit of envy. A closer connection to source, spirit, or even God.

Living the way you want, living the way you talk about living.

I talk about how I want to live because I won’t do it if I don’t. I will get comfortable and lazy, and then leaving it gets difficult. If I keep my life a bit difficult, then when I settle and do not have running water, that is not so hard; cooking from scratch and learning to can is not so hard.

My sisters all have gardens this year, mainly because I harassed them and helped them plant them when I went home. It worked; they almost gave up; it’s not easy.

Now they send pictures of the cucumbers, tomatoes, and zucchini they have growing, and they are proud.

Imagine if you did this for all aspects of your life, starting a fire to stay warm, carrying water to heat for a bath, and building a greenhouse to start seeds.

Titus even has beehives.

So seeing his lifestyle gives me hope that it is possible, even though I know it is possible. To see someone actively doing it is that ray of hope, and seeing the joy on his face and reading the comments, they all radiated hope, love, and support.

It is rare in most videos, but you can’t help but smile when you watch him swinging from the trees and jumping on and off his horse.

Check out the video, and let me know what you think.

XOXO
