I Turned My Poem Into A Song

Forget whether or not you have talent; just do it!

A few years ago, I wrote a poem.

I had just formed my little pandemic band, The Teachers, as a way of staving off lockdown boredom and decided to learn the guitar.

I had just ended a short fling with a woman who I had been friends with for a long time. Well, she ended it and I was pretty upset.

One night during the lockdown in May 2020, I penned a Poem entitled ‘Summertime.’

Summertime is here, memories swept from the deep.

It’s nearly been a year, I fear, Since I’ve felt complete.

My apartment makes it all so clear, devoid of love and not so neat.

I light a candle and drink and drink a drink, to get near to you, my dear.

On a balcony, not far above, lovers’ laughter rings from below.

I stagnate alone, cold to the bone, as summer rots this old man’s soul.

But in my darkest moment, when life seems so bleak,

I cling to your Memories, like a pathetic leech.

But I remember a day in May, surviving on a beach, not long after your breach.

I cried for love, I cried for pride, I cried for what I held so deep.

So Summertime is here, memories sting so deep.

It’s nearly been a year, my dear, since I’ve been complete.

Luckily, my fellow wannabe bandmate liked it and we released it on YouTube and TickTok

We recorded it on his laptop in his kitchen and moved on.

I made the music video on my phone, and surprisingly, it got some views.

I guess the point of this piece is to write honestly and good things will come.
