I tried these three Writing GPTs and why you should too
OpenAI GPTs Store is here!

Hi! The GPTs store was finally released about a week ago now, and there is a lot of interesting stuff in there, have you created your own yet?
In this article, we’ll be exploring the store a little bit testing out a few gpts to see if they’re any good.
So if you have chatGPT Plus you should have access to the GPT store, here is the current state of it.

There is no monetization set up for any of these as far as I’m aware but you can now search through different gpts and you can look through different categories.
As a writer, the ‘Writing’ category drew me in. So if you click on writing, it brings you down here to the writing section.

These are really based on things like SEO. So, I tried some of them and Humanizer Pro was quite impressive as a name, it claims to write text like a human avoiding AI detection.

So, I Took some sample text then pasted it in and specified my preferred tone and length.
What I got back was…extremely flowery prose, laden with thesaurus-sourced vocabulary.
So, not gonna lie, not exactly ‘humanized’ in my view! It seems the tool simply subbed in synonyms rather than truly adapting the style. Safe to say this GPT missed the mark for me.
Next up was the featured ‘Books’ GPT, essentially an AI book recommendation tool.

Asking it for good fantasy novels with strong worldbuilding that I hadn’t already read, it served up pretty mainstream, well-known suggestions — nothing unexpected there.
However, I do see the potential for more tailored, nuanced recommendations as AI reads and analyzes more books, right?
There’s huge value in AI matching books to readers based on their preferences versus generic results.
But for now, this GPT felt easily replicable without AI.
Intrigued by another writing-focused GPT created by the founder of the Future Fiction Academy online platform, I gave their ‘Scene Writer’ a whirl.

Providing some basic story beats from a novel, I asked it to expand on them in a gothic fantasy tone.
What I got back actually impressed me — it took my basic beats and wove them into an ominous yet compelling opening scene.
Definitely some solid prose generation there that I could build on.
The Bottom Line
Alright, there you have it, The GPTs store is here available to all — I mean Plus users, we are still in the early stages, the ability to access specialized writing or more cool GPTs and even build your own models is promising.
As the offerings improve and expand to more creative niches, it could become an extremely useful toolbox for all of us and content creators to augment their workflows.
Powerful assistive writing AI has applications spanning, planning, drafting, editing and discovery. And there is much potential ahead as these models ingest more knowledge and are further optimized for writing. As always, thank you for reading. Cheers!!!
