I Tried The 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse So You Don’t Have To

So, over the past 10 days, I have tried the green smoothie cleanse, specifically so I can start to feel better about myself and just transition into eating better foods overall. I have been vegan for 8 years now and I have gained a little weight since the lockdowns started last year and I thought, now that things are opening up again I might as well start out right and start eating better foods.
Day 1
So, today I started my morning with a cup of iced detox tea. I do not like hot tea, don't judge me, please. I also drank about 24oz of water to start, feeling pretty good about the next 10 days, and being pretty optimistic I was excited to finish my tea and get to the yummy smoothie.

Smoothie #1 — Berry Green
- 3 handfuls spinach
- 2 cups water
- 1 apple, cored, quartered
- 1 cup fresh or frozen mangoes
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 handful of fresh or frozen seedless grapes
- 2 tablespoons ground flaxseed
- 1 stevia packet
Ranking: 5/5
At first, I was not so sure I would like the smoothie since in the past I have not been too keen on green smoothies but to my surprise it was delicious.
The smoothies in this cleanse are large enough to last all day and to mention this now, I am not on a starvation diet so I am allowed to eat apples, celery, carrots, and broccoli throughout the day to keep me tided over.
At the end of the first day, I felt really good and I was excited and nervous to see what would come from it.
Day 2
The second day into this I woke up a little bit hungry so I started off my morning with the same 24oz of water and then skipped the tea this morning in favor of my green smoothie which contained the following:
Smoothie #2 -Apple Strawberry
- 3 handfuls spring mix
- 2 cups water
- 1 banana, peeled
- 2 apples, cored, quartered
- 2 cups of fresh or frozen strawberries
- 2 cups of salad spring mix greens
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 2 stevia packets
Ranking 4/5
After the initial morning cup, I felt great and I was so glad that I was satisfied with my ‘meal’. I did not get hungry or crave food until late afternoon when I came home from my afternoon walk to the mall with my partner. After I was home, I drank another cup of smoothie and laid down for a nap.
Later that night I finished off my smoothie and went to bed. I was concerned that since I had done these smoothie detoxes in the past I would start to feel the effects and the drain on day three. We will see what happens though.
Day 3
Today I woke up and felt a little sluggish rolling out of ben and onto my floor. I drank my morning water, skipped the tea, and waited until about 9 am to make my smoothie. After drinking the water and hopping in the shower I felt ready to tackle the day. I made my smoothie and had my first cup.
Smoothie #3 — Banana Berry
- 1 handful of spring mix greens
- 2 handfuls spinach leaves
- 2 cups of water
- 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen mixed berries
- 1 banana, peeled
- 1 apple, cored and quartered
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 1 stevia packet
Ranking 2/5
I got some work done from my office at home and I sipped on my smoothie while I sent my emails and responded to text messages, checking revenue, etc.. around lunchtime I drank more of my smoothie and had a few sticks of celery, with my one cheat item, homemade hummus I made a few days ago.
Finishing off my third day I feel a lot lighter to be very honest. I have noticed that I am way less bloated than I normally am when I look into the mirror. I have not weighed myself since the start of this experiment, and I know I have many more days to go but as of right now, I feel amazing and I am hoping day 4 doesn't kill me. From what I have read, either day 3–4 feels the worst so if you have to get over the hump then you are golden on your way.
I feel super overall hungry but I think my stomach is just bored and I feel overall good.
Day 4
Waking up today, I felt my stomach grumble a lot in the morning but mostly got over those feelings after having my smoothie and cup of water this morning. As I said before, others who have tried this cleanse have said 3–4 would be the hardest day to get through.

Smoothie #4- Berry Peachy
- 2 handfuls kale
- 1 handful spinach
- 2 cups water
- 2 apples, cored and quartered
- 1 1⁄2 cups of fresh or frozen peaches
- 1 1⁄2 cups frozen mixed berries
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 2 stevia packets
Ranking 2/5
I will say this now, I do not like kale and I am not sure what I did but this smoothie did NOT taste as good as the ones before it. Not that I had to choke it down but it was not as good as any other one I had tried before.
Luckily for me, I did not have to do much today so I mostly just stayed home and watched the rain outside of my window all day while fitting in some work for my job, taking meetings with clients, and setting some stuff up for my move back to California at the end of next month.
Late in the day I really started feeling the sluggishness start to set in. I honestly don’t feel too bad and since I went to the store and got myself some pistachios to munch on throughout the day I felt better than I thought I would.
Day 5
Oh boy, today kicked my butt. I woke up this morning more hungry than a bear after winter. Waking up with a tummy ache is never fun but, me going into this cleanse and being halfway through it, it was to be expected that around 5 days in I would be feeling the effect of that detox tea that I have been drinking 2 cups a day of.
Smoothie #5 -Peachy Berry Spinach
- 3 handfuls of spinach
- 2 cups of water
- 1 cup fresh or frozen peaches
- 1 1/2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 handful of fresh or frozen grapes
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 3 stevia packets
Ranking 4/5
Today's smoothie was way better than yesterday's and gives me hope for the rest of the days to come and even with the angry tummy I have had all day today I feel like this was the perfect decision to make for my health situation.
The biggest goal for me with this juice cleanse is to lose weight and reset my eating habit to harbor better eating. Over the course of the pandemic paired with much less active and more lethargic I have developed a love affair with vegan pizza and after a year of having a massive pizza every two weeks and general grazing all day for more than a year I really have gained more weight than I am happy with and for the first time since I went vegan weighed as much as I do.
Other symptoms that I have felt are weakness in my arms, feet, and legs along with a slight headache and general fogginess all around.
I am halfway through this cleanse and I feel pretty confident in it and to be honest, I look like I did about 6 months ago physically, so let's see how much weight I end up losing in these 10 days.
Day 6
Today I woke up and felt great! I feel like the worst is behind me and since I am now over halfway done I think I will have no issues going forward. I will say that, as I am living with my partner their teriyaki tofu with rice and broccoli looked really good this morning but I will stay strong.
Smoothie #6 -Pineapple Spinach
- 2 cups spinach
- 1 cup fresh or frozen pineapple
- 2 cups of fresh or frozen peaches
- 2 bananas, peeled
- 2 cups of water
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 1 1/2 stevia packets
Ranking 5/5
I feel like this, out of all the ones I have tried this week was the best smoothie I have had. I am not sure if that is simply because I really freaking like pineapple or if it was just good overall.
I will say that my tummy has felt way better today overall, I am not sure if it’s my body getting used to the lack of food, or overabundance anyway. Honestly, I think that I am going to introduce some of these smoothies into my weekly eating habits and maybe do 1–2 days a week where all I do is drink a smoothie, maybe that way I can continue to eat as healthy as I can and feel this way more often.
My goal with this whole thing is primarily to introduce myself to more green foods and better things for my body since over the course of the pandemic I have really not taken care of my body. I am moving in a few weeks and I plan on taking a more physical lifestyle. I would say ‘yeah, I’ll be going to the gym’ but I probably won’t, to be honest. Most likely I will walk to and from work and go hiking on a weekly basis on my days off.
Day 7
Waking up today with only three days left has me very excited for the results I am going to see at the tail end of this experiment I have been doing. It is very odd to think I have had very little solid food for 7 days now and I am still not hungry. I actually am starting to feel that I could go longer than 10 days. I will not be doing so. I will however be introducing 1–2 days a week where I am only going to drink juices I make and I will be taking my fave few recipes here to drink from here on out.

Smoothie #7- Pineapple Berry
- 1 banana, peeled
- 1 1⁄2 cups fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
- 1 1⁄2 cups fresh or frozen mango chunks
- 1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries
- 2 handfuls spring mix salad greens
- 2 handfuls spinach leaves
- 2 cups water
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
Ranking 5/5
Now that I am more than halfway through this thing I feel like the last three days are going to be a breeze. I feel energized about this experience. My partner told me yesterday that I look like I have lost about 10 lbs, and even though I have yet to step on a scale I believe them. Looking at myself in the mirror I can see a drastic difference. My assumption is that I will probably drop anywhere between 10–12 lbs in these 10 days, which is cool and all. Just need to make sure to keep that off and eat better from now on.
Day 8
This morning I woke up thinking ‘how is it day 8 already?’ how did get through a full 7 days without eating any solid food? I have never in my life gotten this far into one of these cleanses since I, in the past, have poor impulse control and it is hard for me to keep focused and motivated.
Well, I did it! I am sitting here writing this later than I usually do, still have yet to make my morning smoothie and I still have some smoothie from yesterday left, so I will start with that and will make my 8th smoothie later today when I get hungry.
Smoothie #8 Spinach Kale Berry
- 1 apple, cored, quartered
- 1 banana, peeled
- 1 1⁄2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries
- 2 handfuls kale
- 2 handfuls spinach
- 2 cups of water
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- OPTIONAL: 2 stevia packets
Ranking 2/5
I am going to be very honest with you all, I do not like kale all that much and the amount of kale in this smoothie specifically was too much and I did not finish the smoothie until the morning of day 9.
Day 8 of this whole test has been okay overall. I had a lot of work to do from home so I was not as focused on the food I was eating, and halfway forgot and halfway didn’t want to drink the smoothie I had for that day. Outside of the smoothies, I have had at least one somewhat solid food, which has been broccoli. I have an unhealthy obsession with the small green tree, and usually have broccoli 1–2 times a week but since I started this 10-day smoothie cleanse I have chosen to have broccoli instead of nuts or seeds like the plan suggests.
Finishing up the day, I had about 1/3 of my drink left before I went to bed and I planned to have the rest of it in the morning and when I got hungry to go and make day 9’s drink.
Day 9
Second to last day and I am pumped. Waking up finishing day 8’s drink for breakfast and having a small bowl of broccoli I didn’t even start drinking today smoothie until 1 pm.
I feel really good overall, not hungry or craving anything except for this to be over. I look visibly thinner and I am wondering if I am going to keep the weight I have lost off or if I am going to gain it back(I hope not).
I am moving back to Los Angeles in a few weeks and since I don’t have a car I will be walking to and from the office for the foreseeable future. So, daily movement, my active production job, and eating way healthier than I have over the course of quarantine I think I will only continue to lose the weight as well as I want to gain some muscle so I will be overall stronger and fit my ‘ideal’ look.
Smoothie #9- Apple Mango
- 1 apple, cored, quartered
- 1 1⁄2 cups of fresh or frozen mangoes
- 1 1⁄2 cups fresh or frozen strawberries
- 3 handfuls of spinach
- 2 cups of water
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 1 stevia packet
Ranking 5/5
Throughout the day I felt less and less hungry, I drank my smoothie, took a walk, and thought about the amazing date I was going to go on the next day with my partner. We are going to the theater and I have not seen a movie in theaters in now like a year. It has been a long time, so I’m very excited!
By the end of day 9, I was feeling very eager to sink my teeth into something that was not liquid or broccoli. The choice snack of the last 9 days. I do plan on having breakfast in bed with my partner the day after next and we are going to build a blanket fort and have a picnic ‘under the stars(we have a star blanket).
Day 10
Waking up on the last day of this cleanse I am equally happy that it is over, and sad that I can not continue. I have learned so much about my body, my strength, motivation, and determination over the last 10 days.
My partner says that they have not seen me as happy as I am now in months and says that my skin is glowing. I guess detoxing from ramen noodles 2–3 times a week works wonders. LOL.
Smoothie #10- Pineapple Kale
- 1 1⁄2 cups of fresh or frozen peaches
- 2 handfuls of fresh or frozen pineapple chunks 2 handfuls kale
- 1 handful spring mix greens
- 2 cups of water
- 2 Tablespoons ground flax seeds
- 2 stevia packets
The rest of the day went great and I am finishing off the cleanse tonight at 6 pm because it is date night and I perfectly planned this cleanse to end when date night begins.
The rest of the day was nice, I got work done, took a walk, drank a smoothie, and just tried to relax and decompress. Sometimes you just need a short rest from life and I am glad that I could have a lighter day for work than normal.
Conclusion
Closing out this test I will say that I have really been okay throughout this whole process and I feel way healthier than I normally do or have felt in a long time.
You may be asking ‘Should I try this?’ and my answer is I don’t know. Each person is different, has different needs. It worked for me, someone who has been a vegan for 8 years and whom juice cleanses work for. You may not be in the same situation.
I think that it is worth a shot IF you know that you can quit at any time. It is not a competition, nor race. Health is a very personal journey and is different for each one of us. I think that if you wanted to do this, I would start with 3 days, and see how you feel. Then go from there.
You also might be wondering how much I lost over the last 10 days…
*drumroll please*
My total weight loss was 10.5 lbs
*shouts and screams*
Do I regret this? No?
Will I do this again? Yeah, maybe in a month or two. Next month I am moving back to California so maybe in October for maybe a week once I get settled. I will however be introducing juice days into my diet. Which I will be taking 1–3 days per week. I am thinking Tuesday & Thursday to just have green smoothies for the day, in order to promote good health and break up the other things I will be eating throughout the week.
I will also be doing intermitted fasting or going back to it next week, For me, I will be eating between 11 am-7 pm each day and that along with a more active schedule I should be able to reach my weight loss goals.
I also would like, once settled to start weightlifting and building some muscle. That is my main goal, and as a human that is 5'10," I am not going to be able to get much lower than I am now weight-wise if I put on a layer of muscle, I might be able to get down another 15–20 but not that much lower.
Thank you for reading, if you have read this far give me 50 claps, yes you can give more than one, just try it :)
