I Tried Skin Fasting For A Week

Here’s what happened

No skin care products for a week.

What does it sound like?

Scary, initially.

No skincare products means not even a cleanser.

What is Skin Fasting?

It involves purposefully avoiding all skincare products for a particular time.

Giving your skin a vacation from the various things it comes into contact with every day and allowing it to heal and restore itself is the idea behind skin fasting.

It can improve the skin's general health and assist in the skin's restoration to its natural functions.

Why Would You Do Skin Fasting?

It gives your natural skin a chance to just rebalance itself to regenerate and do its own thing.

Our skin does have these natural processes; we have sebum, which the natural oil produces. Your skin has its own microbiome.

When you stop using all these products, it gives your skin a chance to breathe and regenerate.

What Do I Use For Skincare?

I have combination sensitive skin, for my regular skin care, which mainly consists of five steps,

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Serum
  • Moisturizer
  • Sun screen

On lazy days I skip toner, serum and sometimes moisturizer too, but I cannot skip sunscreen.

I got a severe skin burn two years back and I am using sunscreen everyday since then.

I was so paranoid about using sunscreen on a regular basis that even on a rainy day I use sunscreen, so skipping sunscreen is hard for me because I cannot go under the sun without sunscreen.

Let’s do seven-day skin fasting:

Day one: I washed my face with lukewarm water because I woke up a little oily and it took me a while to clean my face.

Day Two: I used a cleanser. I can’t skip it, but I’ll skip other products. My face was extremely oily around the mouth, but it was okay.

Day Three: I felt a little better after washing my face, but my sunscreen wasn't there.

Day Four: I was feeling a little oily, which I was expecting because I was not feeling well, so I used the ice water to clean my face.

Day Five: I was under the sun and my skin was itchy, and I used the ice pack again just to calm my skin.

Day Six: I woke up super oily with bumps, so I washed my face quite well for a while.

Day Seven: I had two pimples, but they were quite tiny and couldn’t be ignored.

Now, what was the need for doing it?

There was no need; you don't have to do that, but I was doing that because I wanted to feel like what my ancestors medieval ancestors felt when there was no soap, no face wash.

They used gram flour to clean their bodies by mixing it with water, but I breakout terribly with it, so it is not recommended.

Final Thoughts

I have combination-sensitive skin; a dermatologist would never allow you to do a skin fast with skin sensitivity, but overall, it's alright.

The feeling I got on the 8th day after washing my face and applying all the yummy skin care products was just beyond this world.

Note: Everything you use on your face is absorbed by your skin, so watch the ingredients of every product you use.

Don’t feed your skin dirt, but don’t keep it dirty either. Cleanser is a must.
