I Too, Can’t Breathe.

What we can do to end this injustice

Artist: Strati Di Blu

What do you do when the police murders?

There is no freedom.

There is no justice.

There is no life.

Racism Is Not Getting Worse, It’s Getting Filmed! — Will Smith

Justice cannot be served in this realm. The realm of in inadequacy, inequality, inequity.

Don’t ignore something because it makes you uncomfortable; Your silence is your racism speaking for you.

If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.

We need to talk about this recurring problem.

When we see this happen over and over again we just get angrier and angrier but I don’t want to be angry; I want to be proactive.

But — What Can We Do?

1| Awareness — Awaken to the racial injustices happening around you. Open your eyes and pay attention to everything that happens around you. While the awareness on its own will not make you anti racist, it’s a crucial step for getting to the following stages.

2| Education — Study the complexities of racism and the many ways it can manifest in our society. From books and articles to documentaries and workshops, you have to become an intentional student. The point of studying this topic isn’t for your to articulate your debates about inequality, but rather to develop an eye for identifying white supremacy in its many forms.

3| Self Interrogation — This is the stage where the real self-work begins. Disarm yourself of the racist tools of defense that you have used to bypass the work of anti-racism and replace then with tools of accountability. Self-interrogation is a process which like any other skill takes time and practice.

4|Community Action — Incorporate what you have learnt in your everyday life the leverage your positions of leadership and influence — no matter how big or small — to encourage others to take the same steps. Attempting to do this without the first three stages is how you end up harming BIPOC.

Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are — Benjamin Franklin

I’m not black, but I see you.

I’m not black, but I hear you.

I’m not black, but I mourn with you.

I’m not black, but I will fight for you.

We can’t pretend to understand the injustices you go through but we can stand up and not be silent.

None of us are free until ALL of us are free.
