Don’t Set Goals For Money and Material Things
Instead, focus on flavors of happiness.

I enjoy trying to build my businesses as big as I can.
I enjoy writing, building my YouTube channel, and trying to grow my audience as big as I can.
But none of that is my main goal.
Neither is making loads of money or the freedom it will buy me.
That’s not the point.
The truth is I don’t create my life vision anymore around hard and fast goals like money, success, career, etc. Instead, I set goals for feelings.
Yes, feelings.
Goal-setting for me focuses on defining:
- How do I want to feel each day?
- What states of existence do I want my life to flow from?
- What are the themes I want my life to embody?
- What does a perfect day look like for me?
Why feelings? Because everything in life comes down to how you feel. Whether it’s money, career, travel, relationships, or whatever.
Yes, we all desire those things but it’s really the feelings we believe those things will bring us. Simply put, we are all after a certain state of being. We all have our own flavor of happiness. So why not define what that is and make that your main goal?
Extraordinary day = Extraordinary life
Beyond focusing on feelings, I focus my life vision on creating extraordinary days.
This is because how you spend your time during the day while chasing all those things like money and success has a big impact on how you feel and vice-versa.
How you spend your day will greatly determine how you will spend your life.
And having extraordinary days compound. Because when you direct your energy on creating extraordinary days, it leads to creating extraordinary months which leads to extraordinary years, and ultimately you’re living an extraordinary life — one that you and only you designed.
Here’s a snippet from my life vision for my ideal state of being and extraordinary day:
To wake up every day radiantly alive with so much energy, passion, and enthusiasm that I blissfully jump out of bed excited for the day ahead.
To be creative, learn new things, explore, and work on projects that truly light me up, literally make my soul sing, and connect me with other radiantly alive people.
That my day is filled with creativity, playfulness, wisdom, peace, connection, and kindness.
As I go through my day, I can literally drop to my knees in gratitude for being alive and being in this state for feeling so radiantly alive.
And most importantly that I am utterly present when I experience these states of beings along with any unexpected moments of beauty, wonder, and inspiration that occur throughout the day
What is your flavor of happiness?
Start determining that by answering: what does an extraordinary day look like for you?
Write down your responses by considering these major areas of life:
- Health
- Emotional Well-Being
- Work and Creativity
- Relationships and Connection
Also, consider the following:
- Where would you live?
- What does your daily routine look like from the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep?
- What do you do for work and what is your workday like?
- What are your hobbies and learning activities?
- Who do you see and spend time with?
- What are your common thoughts throughout the day?
Now add feelings into the mix.
You don’t have to go into huge detail here — just come up with a bunch of descriptive words that characterize both your state of being and the mood of your day. For example peaceful, blissful, creative, beauty, kindness, inspiration, etc.
Here are some questions to consider:
- What emotions or states of being do I want to embody?
- What are the values I want to guide my daily actions and choices?
- What would be the themes of my day?
Think about how you want to feel and what you want your experience to be infused with when you’re:
- Working on a project
- Interacting with a colleague
- Attending a meeting
- Doing chores or running errands
- Spending time with family
- Etc.
There a massive flavors of happiness. What is your unique zest for life? The goal here is to compile a list of the themes and states of being you want your life to flow from.

Magic happens.
Don’t get crazy now, of course, I still desire things like money and success. I am human after all. But now I can work towards all of that from a place of deep well-being because I’ve thoroughly set a vision for how I want to feel every day.
And being in this state is where the magic happens in life: you create resonance with your goals and desires. You’ve put yourself into the ideal state to work towards your dreams, achieve success, make more money, or receive whatever it is you are looking to manifest into your life.
A clearly defined emotional state plus a well-intentioned day is the recipe for making life more fun and allowing the things you desire to flow more easily to you.
So, what do you consider your main goal right now? A new business? A stunning home? Wealth? A romantic relationship?
Challenge yourself to go deeper by drilling them down to feelings. Even further, be explicit in defining your flavor of happiness and how amazing it feels as you go through your version of an extraordinary day.
Because after all, isn’t that the point?
