I Stopped Comparing Myself to Others and This Changed My Life

Today I want to tell you why I stopped comparing myself to others and how it changed my life. Yes, I know it can be difficult but it is not impossible.

In the past I often tended to compare myself to others, I wanted to be like them because I saw a lot of happy people or people who looked happy and I wanted to have what they had so I could be happy too.

But we often don’t realize that sometimes appearances are deceiving and it’s not always what it seems to be, sometimes we see someone happy but we can really know they are happy or it’s just a mask, a fake smile.

I was never happy with what I had or how I was, I always wanted to have more and thought that if I got more money, or if I got certain things I would be happy.

But remember, there is nothing outside the present moment, and when you want something you will always be in the future. Being in the future, how can you enjoy the present?

All that existence in the present will offer you will not even consider as if it didn’t exist, because you will remain stuck in the future in the dreams that you are going to fulfill.

I’m not talking about not having goals and not planning for the future, that’s necessary, but until then let’s not forget to enjoy what is happening in the present. Because if you have big goals it can take a long time to achieve them.

If you have big goals it can take years to achieve them, and until then what will you do? Will you just live in the future, will you simply waste years of your life thinking how happy you will be when you achieve them?

I’ve met and talked to a lot of people who have achieved big goals that of course took a few years, because if you want to do something big you can’t do it in a few days.

They all told me the same thing, it didn’t bring me what I wanted it was just a little momentary happiness, that moment passed so quickly that I couldn’t even really enjoy it, and now I’m thinking of another goal to achieve, because now I feel that maybe that something will fulfill me and bring me the happiness I want.

Please don’t be fooled by this mirage of the future, because when you get to where you want to be you will see that it is not what you thought it was and you will probably be disappointed.

And I too, all the time when I reached a goal whether big or small, felt a very small sense of happiness that passed very quickly, I could hardly notice it. It just didn’t last, it was very vague, and somehow I was disappointed.

That’s why I want to tell you to enjoy everything life has to offer, and when you reach your goals, enjoy them too, no matter how short it takes. After all, this is life and we have to accept it as it is if we want to enjoy it.

After realizing this, that whatever goals I achieve will not make me feel fulfilled and that my happiness will not last long. I chose to focus more on the present and enjoy life more.

My life changed a lot, I started to have more authentic relationships because I was more present, I could talk very honestly and openly with the people around me, and I could listen to them and pay attention to what they were telling me because I wasn’t worrying so much about the future. I was simply living in the present, no longer in my dreams of the future.

Yes, I know it will be difficult to be present at first because you’re always thinking about either the past or the future, but don’t worry, if I did it, you will too. It’s just a matter of time.

If I noticed that I was thinking a lot in the past or future, I would try to be mindful of my thoughts, and let them come and go without judging them or interrupting them in any way. And after a while, I didn’t have so many thoughts because they disappear after a while if you pay attention to them. It’s a kind of meditation, you can try it if you want, it helped me a lot.

After a while, I was able to live more and more in the present, and that was incredible, I could enjoy every little thing like a child. Simple things that many of us see every day but don’t pay attention to, and if we don’t pay attention to them we can’t enjoy them.

Conclusion

Having managed to live more and more in the present, I no longer felt the need to compare myself with others, I tried to enjoy everything that life offers me. And I tried to live my life as I felt was best for me, without feeling the need to be accepted or approved by anyone.

Try to live your life the way you want and stop comparing yourself to others, be yourself, and then you will be happy. And please don’t worry about the future, it will come when the time is right, but until then don’t forget to enjoy the present. Because only the present moment exists.
