I STILL Can’t Believe People Aren’t Doing This To Increase Their Views

Time for a reminder as the message clearly hasn’t reached everyone

I’m back again to once again remind you, if you’ve read it before, or tell you, if you haven’t, about one vital mistake I see many people make. This mistake is costing you views. No, this isn’t a figure of speech, and no it’s not a concept or something like your ‘mindset’. No, this is 100% costing you potential views if you aren’t doing this.

Now most of you can give yourself a round of applause. Pat yourself on the back, well done. Some of you though, you damn scoundrels, Listen up. As an editor of a publication I have a lot of articles submitted to me, I also read a fair share of authors outside of my publication. I still see around 30% of people not using tags.

Not using tags.

Seriously!?

Wait, why are tags so important that they are costing me views? It’s simple. Tags are entered just before you publish your piece of work, after you’ve finished writing you will come to this screen:

You can then add tags, or topics, that are related to your story. This helps readers find your work. So, and I mean this in the most literal way I can, not doing this is ensuring you miss out on views.

So, next time you write an article, you better make sure you use all your tags, or I’ll find you. Yeah, I see you, no, don’t look away. Do you use your tags? Yeah, you better. If you know anyone who doesn’t let me know alright? Anonymously of course.

If you don’t know what tags to use just write things similar to what you are writing about. If you are writing about the importance of building relationships on Medium, you could use these tags:

  • Friendship
  • Relationship
  • Family
  • Medium
  • Network

It’s that simple. Even if you have no idea what to put, it’s better to put something instead of nothing. Just like when you had no idea what to write on your Math test so you just took a shot in the dark. Same principle here.

This is how it should look once you’ve used all five:
