I have recently started teaching my module titled “Employability, Creativity, and Personal Development” at the University of East Anglia. It is the first time that I am delivering this module online. We have kickstarted our lectures and seminars.

I wanted to share with you a segment from the first online session of this module. The contents of this workshop session include module expectations, careers of the 21st century, self-making, creativity, new perspectives on careers and employability, inspiring careers, and entrepreneurial thinking.

This module — “Employability, Creativity, and Personal Development” — is about the development of employability skills such as communication, teamwork, leadership, creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving relevant to the needs of business students, graduates, and graduate employers.

If you are interested in learning more about the contents of this session, you can read the following article on learning from inspirational careers:

The overall aim of the module is to encourage students to develop key employability skills that will stand them in good stead for a future career in business and management. The module puts the student right in the center of their own learning and engagement with an array of developmental activities designed to develop themselves and to develop adaptable and practical approaches to their future roles within organizations.

‘Employability, Creativity, and Personal Development’ is an applied vision and skill development module; focusing on the development of the new skill sets for professionals of the 21st century. It is designed as a learning environment and a management trainee program that focuses on the development of knowledge and skills for global leaders.

A core belief underlying our approach, demonstrated in interactive sessions, stems from the Chinese proverb, “Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.

We have intensive brainstorming sessions, professional development workshops, and executive training programs to help students to develop and apply professional skills for your career in the 21st century.

In today’s global, rapidly changing knowledge-based economy, learning and experimenting with employable skills is one of the smartest investments one can make for their future career.

This module draws from an interdisciplinary perspective to understand career success, self-making, and personal branding. It builds on foundational concepts and skills in career development from across disciplines, including psychology, business, design thinking, entrepreneurship, and employability.

Students find opportunities to practice skills such as communication, leadership, creativity, design thinking, and problem-solving relevant to the expectations of graduate employers. The module also involves the development of practical employable skills including preparing a CV, writing a cover letter, and preparing for job interviews.

I will be sharing sample segments and slices from this module. I will also choose and share some of the slides and sessions from the module. I hope that these will be a valuable learning opportunity for those who want to learn more about these topics. It will also serve as a pedagogical resource for those who would like to teach on these topics.
