But then something unexpected happened that made me want to share it with you.

CONTROL YOUR ENGAGEMENT ENTHUSIASM

It all began with a single click on a captivating story. The art of storytelling had ensnared me, and before I knew it, I was immersed in a cascade of narratives, opinions, and experiences shared by fellow writers.

So, as I navigated through the ocean of content, each clap symbolized my support, every comment my eagerness to engage in lively discussions, and every highlight my personal connection with the words on the screen, sentences that resonated with me.

TIME FLIES

Time flew by as I read and interacted with stories. With each interaction, I felt more connected to the authors and their thoughts.

Before I knew it, six hours had passed, then something unexpected occurred.

As I was about to contribute yet another thought-provoking comment to a particularly insightful story, I was met with an unexpected roadblock, I couldn’t comment anymore.

So I asked myself, why had this happened? Had I reached a threshold for engagement? I started thinking about why this might have occurred.

The Way Medium Works

So, I couldn’t wait any longer without trying to do something. So, I did some research and found that, behind the scenes, Medium operates on intricate algorithms designed to ensure the website is fair and enjoyable for everyone.

This might be a rule to prevent problems like spam, abuse, or people taking over the conversation.

Platforms often set limits on the frequency of certain actions, and in our platform, I believe it might be “commenting”.

So, it’s likely that my sustained engagement triggered Medium’s automated algorithms to temporarily restrict my commenting capabilities.

The platform may have perceived my high level of activity within a short span as potentially inauthentic or spam-like behavior.

It’s important to be aware of this safeguard. It indeed ensures that the platform remains a space for genuine interactions and prevents anyone from abusive.

Final Thoughts

So, my inadvertent experiment if I can say so, taught me about the balance between active engagement and algorithmic boundaries.

Medium wants us to connect and share but also wants to make sure we’re real people having real conversations.

Actually, this is good as it highlights the platform’s commitment to maintaining a thriving community.

So, next time you’re engaging, remember that being genuine and respecting the rules is important. It’ll be sad to get kicked out because of your engaging enthusiasm.
