I Spent 120 Hours Finding Profitable Niches on Amazon KDP [So You Don’t Have To]

Discover which latest gems have a high-profit potential

Many people do their niche research wrong.

They misjudge niches in ways that are understandable and genuine but will have a negative impact further down the line. That’s a lot of work, time, and energy wasted.

Most often I see people over-focus on the number of search results without context, or miscalculate the competition:

  • They see more competition than there really is.
  • Or do the opposite — they overlook established authority books and their social proof (like extremely high review numbers, or how many positions on Page 1 are taken by authority books… although sometimes there’s a way around this).

To add to this brilliant mix, Amazon changes quite a lot, does a lot of split testing, and of course evolves the algorithm, so you have to keep an eye on things pretty much constantly.

The good news is:

There’s still so much space and potential for high-quality books to succeed, beyond what you might have been imagining (or hearing).

With the rise of AI-generated low-effort spaghetti books (people are throwing books at random niches to see what sticks), well-written and well-designed quality books now have a huge opportunity to shine and bag more sales than ever.

Here’s what I mean:

Screenshot of some search results in the DBT skills / anxiety in teens niche.

The above is a typical display of keyword-stuffed books being thrown at the wall, most of them probably AI-heavy.

Seriously though, 10 books in 1?? How thick is the paperback?

Anyway.

Create a book that stands out from this pile of sameness topped by manipulated reviews, and you’ve pre-set yourself for more success than 95% of these books.

Don’t take my word for it:

This book is selling 39 paperback copies a day, with $119 estimated daily royalty in a crowded niche full of random books: self-love and self-esteem for teen girls.

This audiobook is making at least 6 sales a day, and has generated over $11,000 in royalties so far, without a penny spent on marketing or advertising. (This is one of my books, and it was one of my first attempts.)

And this book is currently earning an estimated $40 a day, alongside an Animal Planet and Youtube authority figure (proof authority books don’t automatically kill a keyword, but it depends on a lot of factors), ranking 3rd for dog training books for puppies.

(*all numbers as per the time of writing)

What makes the real difference here, is the way you analyze these niches and keywords.

But most people don’t read between the lines.

My research does.

Who am I?

So far, I’ve published and built 7 books that are doing well, some of them KDP-focused, some of them Audible-focused, and I have more in the making. 2024 marks the start of my 4th year in self-publishing.

And I can tell you one thing:

Building your book into a successful position does require initial hard work and effort.

But once you’ve built your book into a good spot on Page 1 for the right keywords, you can step back a bit.

The sales will keep flowing in. Then you just keep on top of trending search terms to bag additional sales and increase book awareness. But the bottom line sales will stay level.

However, when it comes to both Amazon KDP and Audible:

None of this can happen without choosing a properly analyzed and researched book niche that has proven potential.

Without proper analysis, you’re just throwing spaghetti at the wall.

Now — if you have a personal book you wrote for yourself and not for profit, it’s a different story.

But if you want to make some money from your books, you need to start with high-quality research.

Using my 3+ years of experience, I’ve done the tedious deep digging for you.

I’ve created a Ready-Made Niche Research series which I now publish on my Substack.

Here’s what you get in every post:

Ready-Made Niche Research

  • One Amazon KDP niche with a tangible profit potential
  • One Audible niche with a tangible profit potential
  • Background info about each research process
  • Proof and evidence behind my findings
  • Full explanation of any jargon or more complex cases

You’ll save time and some money (I use reliable paid research tools), and can just focus on picking the niche that resonates the most with you.

Then create a book that’s more amazing than anything else on that Page 1!
