I Seek Untracked Terrain
A new routine within.
We awake to sameness and reach for the past.
The comfort of routine will trace the lines between the paths that link our thoughts so they no longer slip but smoothly track as dendrites snap.
We carve deep glacial grooves in the fabric of our minds. There’s safety in these tracks.
Our memories are fire and wire. The thoughts we reach to touch are reassuring lines. As fingers linger in the traces of the trails.
If you enjoyed this poem, have a look at my book, We Swallow Light. It’s an exploration of events in a past life and a refreshing take on overcoming pain and the joy of finding love.
Thanks, Joe Luca and J.D. Harms for the prompt about routines and change.
And I invite members of the Poetry and Fiction Club to consider either writing a short story or a poem about Routines and Change.
