I Search For Peace of Mind
We jump off the bridge.

I duck my head deep in cool swift water and surface gasping at the momentary distraction.
We jump off the bridge like trout that leap to rid themselves of parasites.
I try to ease my worried mind. Bits and pieces float away drifting in the current.
I search for peace of mind along the rocky shore, turning over every stone seeking some relief.
All I find are crabs that grasp and pinch and pull me down until we level off.
I seek wisdom, as I listen to the silence. Trees send soothing tendrils into air that’s thick with moss and mist.
I trace a pattern on the map along the ridges in the bark yet cannot read the trail.
I climb higher in the forest canopy to see the bigger picture. The air is thin and cold.
Tiny berries beckon. I eat them as I pick. They burst like sunshine in my mouth.
It pulls me back.
