I Scaled My Freelancing Business. But I Stopped Writing On Medium

Here’s the reason.

The author sipping on some hot latte at a quaint cafe.

It’s 1st March 2024, and I scaled my freelancing business to $1800: that’s a lot in India.

The last time I updated you all, I was earning $1300. You all loved that story; I am super proud of writing it.

But while scaling, I realized I wanted to step out of this.

You must be thinking I’m crazy! So many people want to earn with freelancing and I am talking about stepping out after seeing so much success with it.

Here’s the thing: as a freelance social media manager, I help my clients grow their personal brands and company pages on LinkedIn. (You can do this too. I’ve shared everything I know in this masterclass.)

  • I create a strategy for each of them.
  • I come up with content ideas.
  • I research and write content.
  • I comment on others’ posts from my clients’ profiles.
  • I edit videos + images.

And a lot more!

I read a post yesterday that said one person cannot handle everything, but I do for multiple clients.

And while I do have the time to manage all these things, I end up with no creativity or energy for my own work.

It’s not that I don’t have enough time, but I lose all my creative energy while working on client projects.

So, while I was scaling my freelancing business:

  • I couldn’t write Medium stories.
  • I couldn’t shoot YouTube videos.
  • I couldn’t promote my consultations and digital products enough.
  • And I couldn’t create everything I wanted to.

And while all these don’t benefit me much monetarily, this is what brings me more joy.

But I’m glad I’m realizing my calling.

I’m glad I’m slowly returning to doing the things I love.

I don’t know when I will be able to step down from freelancing entirely or whether I will be able to do it at all, but if I start getting paid from Medium, YouTube, and the small services I offer, I might be able to do it.

Since I share all my wins with you here, I also wanted to share my struggles.

But hey! This, too, shall pass. :)
