I Saw Crime Today And It Was Pretty Sad To Watch
I’m worried about the future of society, but there’s still time for something nice to happen
Well, it was bound to happen.
I just didn’t expect it to occur so soon.
Either way, it’s a good lesson in life that you need to be prepared for dark times and for crime to affect you personally.
We were at a fast food restaurant today for lunch, a late lunch after a sports event.
It was stressful enough because the place was crowded, there were not enough employees, and the parking lot was a madhouse.
We finally got our food and started to eat.
Then, suddenly, we hear a commotion behind us.
“They’re stealing our bikes!" yelled a woman.
“Stop!" screamed a man as he chased someone who was stealing a bicycle.
I looked out the window and saw a person grab a man off his bicycle and push him away. I watched them fight each other, throwing punches and grabbing shirts.
“What’s going on?" asked one of the people sitting with me at the table.
As I pondered the high price but low quality of the food I purchased, I tried not to think about the madness outside.
“Somebody left their bikes unlocked and now they are being stolen."
It’s not for me to lay blame about what happened or how it could have been prevented. After all, things are going to happen no matter what you try to do to prevent them.
The sad part is that it led to someone getting physical with a stranger. Fighting is a risky activity that could lead to all kinds of permanent damage.
I wonder how I might react if it impacts me directly one day. Certainly, I pray that I can be responsible and not try to interfere in order to save my personal belongings.
Lessons To Learn
It’s a good reminder in life to try to prevent bad things from happening or to keep yourself out of difficult scenarios.
- Stay away from areas known to have high levels of criminal activity
- Don’t drive fancy cars
- Hide jewelry and watches
- Keep electronics hidden
- Have someone retrieve your packages at home
- Invest in security devices and alarms
- Try to walk with a friend or dog
There is always going to be crime and criminal activity. The good thing is that we can take care of ourselves and try to prevent it from happening to ourselves.
Read the news and try to find out what is happening where you live. If thieves are targeting certain neighborhoods, you may want to stop going there. If crooks are stealing certain cars or trucks, you might take that consideration whenever you purchase a vehicle.
Soon we were finished at the restaurant and headed to our car in the parking lot.
I saw the family in front of us, the group that had been involved with the bike incident.
“I’m glad you got your bike back," I said to the mother.
“Thanks, but we only got back one of them. The second bike was stolen by their partner."
“I’m sorry it happened to you," I added.
The good news is that the man did not look physically injured. I was glad for that, because things could have turned out worse.
I don’t think we will be going back to this restaurant again. This decision is not directly related to the crime matter.
The reason has to do with other things really. This restaurant had installed kiosks to do the orders and mine malfunctioned. Then, the front counter, where I had to go next to submit my order, had been reduced to a tiny crowded space.
This place wasn’t fun any more and that is pretty sad. I remember better times there and those are gone forever.
This was a tough day in a lot of different ways. The good news is that there are a few hours left in this Saturday and I am going to find a quiet spot on the couch.
Then, maybe I will find a funny video that will make me smile. As you know, videos about little pigs or chickens always make me smile.
