Summary

Today, I saved a butterfly that had fallen into a swimming pool and was initially thought to be dead, but it turned out to be alive, albeit with a damaged wing, and I helped it to safety in the grass.

Abstract

While swimming, I noticed a butterfly floating lifelessly in the pool. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was still alive despite having a damaged wing. I carefully removed it from the water and, recognizing its inability to fly, I decided to assist it. I used a net to move it from the hot pavement to a safer environment in the grass. The butterfly seemed to understand my intentions and accepted the help, eventually moving off into the greenery, presumably to recover and continue its life.

The tiny body floated in the pool where I swam! I was sad to see the dead butterfly.

I scooped it gently out of the water and laid it gently on the concrete. Then, much to my surprise, moments later, a wing fluttered!

Sadly, one wing was damaged, so he was unable to fly. As it lay upon the hot pavement, I pondered what to do. I gradually moved my net and placed it next to the butterfly. It was as if he knew what I wanted him to do, so he climbed aboard.

I slid the net with its precious cargo across the walkway and into the grass. The butterfly stepped off of the net and walked between the stalks.

Thanks for the ride, he seemed to say.
