I ruled the world

A poem

One day I ruled the world. It was a good day And I knew it at the time, Lucky me.

One day I wrote the rules I had all the power With deft control and wise, I decided.

That day I had the answers To questions, I would not ask That day I chose a path I’d never come across.

I look back and smile At that rich queen Over battlements strong, Her tiny kingdom seen

Stretching across the miles Of her great, eager mind. Our eyes meet, a little nod, She asks if life’s been kind

My eyes say no it’s not Life’s place to hold my hand My turning says I’ve become A roamer of this land

I’ll not be held by castles In the air or otherwise, I’ll not be held by ‘wisdom’ Of men, and certainly not of mice.

Today my freedom reigns In reigning nothing at all I walk away more regal Knowing that I am small.
