I Received a $500 Medium Cash Bonus
It’s a reward for quality work
Today I opened my mailbox and was shocked to see a notification from the Medium partner program. I was one of 1,000 writers who got a one-time $500 cash bonus for high engagement.

At first, my eyes rolled in disbelief and I thought it was a glitch. I kept questioning if it was real.
Later, I confirmed it with the writers in my group who also received the same bonus. My heart was fluttering and I was jumping with joy. Added to my excitement was the fact that it was on the same day that my writers' group run a live zoom session.
What are Medium cash bonuses?
As detailed in this article, Medium added a bonus cash system in 2018, which allows writers to earn more from their stories.
The way it works is that curators will read every story written by members of the Partners program. Then they’ll pick and choose which ones are high quality and reward the author accordingly.
Here is what a Medium spokesperson said:
“Medium Editor’s bonuses are part of our continuing effort to build a system that pays writers based on value to readers, not click value to advertisers.”
I’m writing this article not to brag, but to encourage and hopefully inspire other writers to keep going and pursuing their writer’s dream. The success may not come right away, but if you’re persistent and keep producing quality content, Medium will reward you for your work.
I believe anyone can do it with consistent effort. You just have to keep writing and keep publishing and your work will pay off! I know it’s a cliche, but honestly, if I didn’t commit myself to write every day, I don’t think I would’ve been one of 1000 writers to receive this bonus. I put in the work and it payed off. It’s that simple.
Here are factors that played in my success.
Publishing consistently
One of the biggest hallmarks of success on Medium is consistency. When you consistently produce high-quality, engaging content, you drive engagement and bring fresh content in front of many people. More eyeballs on your work equal engagement.
In April, I stepped up my game and decided to stick to my formula of publishing articles every day. But it isn’t just random content I wrote on a whim. I strategized as to what articles I churned out and ensured that each article I wrote delivered value to the reader.
And judging from the success of my previous articles, I knew which articles would get more traction. Speaking of quality, I also achieved a curation rate of 90%.
I only wrote for about two hours each day, but it’s amazing how much you can get done within that time frame. I made sure to read and engage with articles from other writers too. Also, when writers left comments on my articles, I tried to reply to all of them.
My writing group
Another factor that played into my success is my writing group. I have an amazing group of supportive writers who have helped and supported me along the way.
As a writer, you don’t want to go at it alone. You want someone to be there to encourage you to keep going. Besides, there are so many perks to having other writers look and critique your work. It helps you bring the quality of your articles to the next level.
Also, being in a writing group helps you be more accountable and follow through with your goals.
Final thoughts
If you’re a writer who doesn’t yet see success, don’t be discouraged. If you put in your time and effort, eventually you’ll get there.
Remember, if I could do it, so can you. I encourage you to keep writing and keep publishing. The rewards come with consistent effort. That means even if you don’t see any results now, you should keep going anyway. Writing is a journey and to be successful you need to write and publish every day.
