I Reached One Of My Goals: I Published 200 Articles On Medium
Thank you!
After almost one year writing on Medium, I reached my goal of 200 published posts. I am surprised, I really don’t know how I could make it: just months ago it took me a very long time to write one article.
I now realize that my process has become much faster, maybe because I waste less time editing, which is my main issue since English is not my native language.
There are more changes that came with practice, especially thanks to the good advice I read on other writers’ articles. Here are some of them.
1- Murder your darlings: if a sentence doesn’t work, or if I don’t like it, I have to cut it. It is something I do every day, and it speeds up the process.
2- The subject of articles. I used to desperately look for inspiration on books, articles and podcasts not knowing what to write about. Now I am mainly inspired by other writers on Medium and by my daily life: a misunderstanding with a colleague, a family reunion, a sad friend, my emotions.
3- Writers on Medium. Reading their stories is one of the pleasures of my daily life. I love them all. Some of them are like friends to me: they inspire and encourage me, and help me continue. Reading and analyzing the way they structure their posts is a never ending lesson.
Community is what really matters on Medium. Sharing experiences and feelings with a group of people I like and I never met before is great. How can I feel so close to them? Yet, that’s the way it is. I think about them and about their lives, and hope they have overcome their last difficulties.
200 articles are a huge accomplishment to me. They show I can do things I put my heart on. I know I can be a much better writer if I work harder, and I tend not to compare my work to others: there are too many good writers on Medium!
Every single article I wrote, every time I sat at my table thinking I don’t know what to write, every doubt I had and decided I would not listen to, all the steps I took on Medium are thanks to some nice persons who realized I needed their help. Some of them encouraged me when I started writing, and they made me feel at home. I can’t thank all of them, they are too many.
I will only mention the first persons who gave me that little encouragement I needed to go on, just before I decided to quit. I need to remind myself about my first fearful steps on Medium, to appreciate the results and effort it took me to go on, but especially to celebrate the first authors who read my articles.
My first mentor Vishnu*s Virtues, because he showed me that writing — and life experiences — can be fun, Liam Ireland Terry L. Cooper and all editors at ILLUMINATION, Muhammad Nasrullah Khan and Agnes Louis who were the first ones to edit and publish my work. That’s where I started.
Thank you, I wouldn’t be writing this article without you!
