I Paid 3 Budget Designers On Fiverr To Create The Same Coloring Book Cover

Many of you have reached out, curious about how I outsource and locate talented cover designers for my books om Amazon KDP. In this article, I share my first-hand experience with hiring three budget designers on Fiverr to craft a cover for a coloring book.
A Bit About Fiverr
Fiverr is an online platform where you can connect with freelancers specializing in a variety of fields, from graphic design and digital marketing to video animation. I’ve employed its services for many years, leveraging the skills of coloring book designers to enhance my KDP business.
Setting the Parameters
For my project, I was on a hunt for a coloring book cover themed around “Kawaii Sweet Treats.” Before approaching any designer, I did made sure I did some research. I delved into my niche, researched potential competition, and even took screenshots of covers that particularly appealed to me. This was not to copy, but to inspire — to give the designers a tangible vision of what I expected.

The Selection Process
With a budget capped at $30 per cover, I scoured Fiverr. Here’s what I looked for:
- Searchability: Simply key in what you need in the search bar, and voila! In my case, “coloring book cover” did the trick.
- Reviews and Ratings: A must! These are the real-life experiences of clients.
- Engage Before Hiring: Prior to confirming any designer, I always struck up a conversation to ascertain their understanding of the project and to establish clear expectations.
The design brief sent to all designers included:
‘Title: kawaii sweet treats (large playful font), subtitle: coloring book for kids, dimensions 8.5 x 11, 62 pages, pink gradient background’ A screenshot of the cover I found on Amazon was also sent.
Each designer also agreed on completing the job in 24 hours.
The Designs
- Designer 1 (Mustafizur, $10): A veteran with a 4.9 rating and over 190 reviews, he offered a package that included the cover, spine, source file, a 3D mock-up, and four revisions, completed in 24 hours — a true bargain at just $10. The design he produced had a playful font and a pink gradient background. It was spot-on with my brief.

- Designer 2 (Shahin, $20): With a 5-star rating from around 235 reviews, Shahin seemed popular. Browsing through his portfolio, I noticed his versatility in creating both coloring and activity book covers. I opted for his basic package for a book cover, and he perfectly captured the essence of the theme.

- Designer 3 (Hosne M, $30): Holding a 5-star rating and 45 reviews, Jose’s offerings were a tad different. I received a custom offer to receive a design within a day. He offers 2 designs, one created with AI and another using vector illustrations. To my surprise, he supplied four distinct concept designs. Two of them stood out, particularly the one with the pink gradient background.

Final Thoughts
The three designers surpassed my expectations, reinforcing that quality does not always come with a hefty price tag. Outsourcing such tasks can indeed save you a lot of time, letting you concentrate on the areas of business areas you are best at.
If you are venturing into self-publishing coloring books and activity books then hiring a designer will take your KDP business to the next level as it did to mine. Consider your options, weigh the prices, and choose a designer whose style resonates with your vision.
