I only have 1,843 weeks left to live

Events in life are described in terms of time. From the past, through the present, and into the future. A continuous, non-discrete, one-direction vector.
As a mathematician, the concept of time seems beautiful. As a human, however, it seems wholly terrifying. So now that I’ve calculated what time I have left on this big beautiful planet, what the heck am I doing with it?
Time is a weird thing. The present is like the tip of a needle. There is just this one moment. Once done, there are no more such instances. Only our memories can grab from the past and truly gauge that the present moment, even in fact, occurred.
The future, on the other hand, cannot even be predicted because it is merely an intangible thought. I don’t even know what the next sentence I will type is. For me, this sentence is wholly unique to the universe. As is this one. As is this one. As is this one? Am I asking a question… I’m so confused.
My mind, friends, is blown.
I’ve lived in this world 42 years, and 11 months. That’s a long time already, but have I spent the time on things that are meaningful?
It’s all a little overwhelming when one takes in the enormity of life. This is probably why I previously dismissed life in terms of seconds or days or even years. Weeks, though, feels more manageable. I can read a whole book in a week. That’s just a theory, of course. I sometimes can’t get my car washed in a week. I can schedule and do a specific task in a week. If I wanted to take a trip, I might schedule one over the course of a week and take it in the next week.
Weeks are manageable and, now, terrifying.
When I broke down my life expectancy into future weeks, I felt a ridiculous surge of urgency to:
- Strengthen my bonds with my friends
- Spend more quality time with the family that matters
- Travel abroad more frequently and truly see what this life has to offer
- Focus on more vital tasks rather than meeting urgent deadlines.
- Increase the impact I have on the world in whatever form that may be
- Pay it forward by increasing my time commitment to deserving initiatives
- Prepare and develop the next generation of leaders
- Create a useful book for business owners and leaders
- Give my children practical life lessons that will keep them safe and secure
- More than anything, enjoy the journey
Now not all of them are practical in a set of days, but maybe I can figure out how to do it in a set of weeks. The 1,843 weeks left, doesn’t feel like a lot of time, but it feels more tangible in getting things done.
I don’t want to wait till I have 1,842 weeks left to live to really live. So, now that I have a number, what do I do with it.
While I give this more thought, how many weeks do you have to live? Dare you look?
