I Only Earned Around $2.50 From a Full Day of Writing Sometimes

Readership is odd. I am thankful but confused about monetization…

Medium & feelings

I’m not sure how to feel though I am grateful that Medium has been a platform that has a lot of good community people for me while I was helping myself feel better from the stress of life. I do contribute a significant amount of time and sometimes an entire day writing and reading around the platform with interesting diverse topics.

I love the intellectual vitality.

I love the Medium community. I even read and came across an article about an imaginative world of Medium writers and community members filled with the details of cobblestone streets and community centers, buildings, and residences. It reminds me of JK Rowling and her vision of the wizarding world.

I have been looking into the topic around some of the more prominent writers and publications that I follow as well. It looks like some writers also experience turbulence and inconsistencies where sometimes the readership is incredible and so the monetary rewards follow. On other days, of course, it falls very low and plateau or seems very menial and nonexistent.

I also looked at the peaks sometimes that readers report having because of the boost programs or joining the Friend of Medium incentives. I know I have seen as well following Zulie Rane's writing and analysis of her tips on being successful at Medium that there are unexpected movements in this writing journey and doing this kind of online work. It’s very fulfilling and wonderful though I just wish I could know, learn, or figure out how people can develop their passion project into something more reliable as a livable resource on top of community building, writing out high-quality materials, sharing knowledge, and engaging.

Let me know if you have found anything on this topic. I am not too sure. I have seen a lot of other awesome writers that I also follow write a few times on the topic of monetization or about their incentives for writing often changing and it is as confusing.

I assume things are just in development and writers will get more support soon, thankfully & hopefully, for writers to keep focusing on writing prompts and coming up with more interesting things to do and read.
