POETRY

I Never Met a Metaphor

Tell me please, what is it for?

Is this tree worthy of a simile? (Photo by Sherise . on Unsplash)

Does an open, creaky, wooden door Have the makings of a metaphor? And if I find a leafy tree Should I put it in a simile?

If you’re not personifying Are you even really trying? No onomatopoeia? That’s it! I’m done! I’ll see ya.

A literary device Is nice. I’ve used one thrice. But give your metaphors a rest When plain language says it best.

Martin Rushton started Never-Ending Poem as a challenge for writers. It’s like a chain email, only cooler.

Thanks to Marie T Smith for prompting me to write about metaphors. Check out her tanka on dreams.

Do you have what it takes to join the chain? I challenge James G Brennan, Marie T Smith, Dr John Rose, Becky Kelley, and Roz Warren, but anyone can play!
