I Moved To Australia Six Years Ago, Here Is Why I Am Still Loving It
And I am not planning to leave this beautiful country any time soon
Six years ago, I decided to enrol for a postgraduate program. I had completed my bachelor’s degree back in my home country, and it was time to further my education by enrolling in a postgraduate degree. At the time, I considered several options in the UK, US, Canada, and some free tuition-free Universities in other parts of the world. Alas, I decided to move to Australia for my Master of Public Health program at the Universality of Queensland, Brisbane.
The application and the visa process were relatively straightforward as I got maximum help from the agent and the institution. It was pretty easy to receive an offer from the school as I met all the requirements, so getting an offer was easy. Three months after I made an application, I found myself journeying to the farthest part of the planet!
Some of my friends wondered why I would travel to a distant country to study; however, this didn’t matter. My goal was to enrol for my postgraduate degree in 2016, and I was glad I got what I wanted in the end.
I finally arrived on February 18, 2016, at my choice destination (Queensland) in Australia, after an over 24 hours flight with a layover in Dubai. I had arranged a temporary accommodation close to the city to make my commute and integration into the society as seamless as possible.
Six years on, I am still here loving this beautiful country and here is why.
Australia is Beautiful
Australia is a beautiful country. Think about the nice and beautiful beaches that surround the country’s coastline. You find many visitors — both individuals and families — on the beach almost now and then, having a good time and enjoying the fresh air under the nice blue skies. The Gold Coast in Queensland is a popular destination, which welcomes at least 10 million visitors per year. Up North is Cairns, a beautiful historical city that attracts lots of visitors from around the well. Tasmania is beautiful, with lots of beautiful beaches and mountains. You will not regret a trip to these and many other cities in Australia. They are gorgeous!
Australia is Diverse and Multicultural
One impressive fact about Australia, being a migrant country, is that it is multicultural and welcomes lots of people worldwide. Every country is represented. Having a mix of all cultures means you can learn a thing or two from other cultures and societies without necessarily needing to travel to those countries. I particularly love interacting with others from different backgrounds and countries.
Plenty of Food
As a multicultural country, you can expect to access lots of food on the go. Think Thai, Japanese, African, Italian, Vietnamese, Mexican, everything you can think of. You would indeed have plenty to eat! Sure, it’s not free, but you won’t go hungry if your wallet is full, and you won’t be disappointed as there is a variety to choose from. Make sure you come with a special budget for food 😊
Beautiful Weather
Australia’s weather is fantastic! At first, I thought I would struggle with the winter, but it turned out not to be too bad as I anticipated. I thought I would be freezing and unable to cope, but it did turn out well. The climate is generally warm in summer. It can get hot in some northern regions such as Northern Queensland and Northern Territory, especially in summer. So prepare to have your hats and screen shades on if you visit in summer. I love the weather! Winter is experienced from July to August, and Summer is From December to January.
Free and Quality Health Care System
Australia provides near free and quality health system through its publicly funded “Medicare” system. Australians can enjoy a wide range of health care services without putting a hole in their pockets. If you are ever concerned you will be spending too much to look after yourself and your family’s health, then worry no more — you will have everything from the quality health care system. In addition to the Medicare system, Australia has a wide range of private health options for individuals looking for more services.
World’s Most Liveable Cities
Australian cities rank top in the world’s most liveable cities. Melbourne occupied the top spot for seven years in a row until 2017.
This metric is calculated by considering many factors, including economic stability, healthcare culture, education and infrastructure. Melbourne ranked 97.5, which is huge. Ask no more if you are seeking a country with rest of mind.
Quality Education
Australian schools rank amongst the top in the world. According to the Times Higher Education, Australian universities rank in the top 50 globally, alongside Universities from the UK, US and Canada. So, if you are seeking a country where you can access quality education from top schools, then Australia will provide this for you! I’m glad I had my postgraduate education here in Australia, a decision that had changed my life forever.
Final Summary
Australia is a beautiful country. These are just a few reasons why Australia is a great place. There are plenty of online resources that will provide you with an abundance of information specific to states and cities in Australia.
Therefore, if you are looking for a country to study, migrate or work in, I highly recommend you add Australia to your wish list! You will not be disappointed!
