I Made More Money In The Summer Than These Past Two Months

Plot twist: I wrote way less in the summer

I’m starting to think consistency is bullshit. Over the summer, I didn’t write more than three articles a month and made more money than in September. It’s not a ton of money, but it helped pay some bills.

Last month, I didn’t make more than $20. It’s the middle of October, and I haven’t hit $10 yet. I don’t know why.

I’ve never been a popular writer here, but I had enough of a following to make some pocket change. I wonder if I have the same problem as other writers, and no one can find my work anymore. I’ve seen Shannon Ashley talk about her issue with it, and Jessica Wildfire is having some problems too.

If I had more clout as a Medium writer, I’d say for sure. But I don’t. I see my views and pay dropping and wonder if I should give up on writing and find another job so I can save up for a house. I already have one job, but I might need a second.

Right now, it’s too early to say. I’m going to keep writing and keep trying right now. But if something doesn’t give, I could be the next person saying good-bye to the platform.

I’ve always dreamed of being a writer and traveling the world. The money I earn from writing could help fund the trips and mini writing retreats. I thought that dream was achievable here, but now I know it’s not. It’s a blow to my confidence as a writer.

We’ll see how much longer it takes before I give up. I’m not ready to admit it’s a dream that’ll never happen. I refuse to say, “I wanted to, but…”
