I Made $6,804 on Gumroad

Here’s how I sold many copies of my online digital product

I never thought I could make passive income on the internet.

If somebody had said to me that I’d make over $5,000 after launching a digital product, I’d have laughed in their face.

It must be pure luck, right?

Selling digital products is like Medium, there’s no luck involved, just hard work and determination.

As a graphic designer I wanted to share my knowledge on how I got to this stage in my career as a full-time freelancer, so I decided to book a room out for the day in college and record my first online course.

Then disaster happened. My camera had been out of focus for over 2 hours of the footage recording.

I didn’t quit, went back the next week, recorded the entire course, and uploaded it to Gumroad.

I’m not going to post the course name on Medium, because it will look like I am trying to get you to buy, and this is not the point of this article.

If you look hard enough, you can find it yourself.

Here’s exactly how I did it:

The marketing process

The course needed to have a build-up process, so I decided to announce everything one week before launch.

This was to build hype and get people excited about the knowledge I would be providing to other business owners.

I added every account that showed interest to Notepad on my computer to contact once the course had launched to see if they were still interested.

I provided content for free first

I have a lot of free guides on my Gumroad that have been downloaded thousands of times and people have chosen to sign up for my e-mail newsletter.

These downloads are my target audience, and they were way more likely to support my Gumroad content in the future.

In the end, I had over 800+ e-mail subscriptions in the space of 2 months.

I built my personal brand

If I were to launch a course within my first week posting consistent content, it would never sell.

That’s why I never launched anything until I had hit 5,000+ followers.

I had to be in an audience building phase first before anybody would trust me with their hard earned money.

The course has a 100% rating of 4 stars and above, and 95% of people gave it the best possible rating, 5 stars.

How did I get to that point?

Doing exactly what I am doing right now on Medium, posting consistently, never giving up and believing in the plan I have in place.

I am nothing special, I just work hard and refuse to quit. Anyone with a bit of determination and grit can do what I’ve done and beyond.

The problem is, most people quit after 2 weeks, it’s impossible to succeed that way.
