I Made $2,343.50 in My First Month Writing Online: This is How I Did It

Mom, I’ve finally made it!

Back in May 2023, I was laid off from my corporate job, a position I had held for several years. Faced with this unexpected challenge, I had two choices: either harbor resentment towards my former boss or move forward.

I chose the latter.

I knew that starting from scratch would be daunting, yet I was determined to follow my lifelong passion: earning a living through online writing.

Like many others, I turned to YouTube to learn about making money through online writing. Among the various ideas, blogging caught my attention. Driven by motivation and ample time, I began my first blog.

Excitedly, I envisioned thousands of visitors within two months. After setting everything up, I diligently wrote one blog post per day and soon noticed an upward trend in my Google Analytics.

Delighted with this progress, I increased my output to 2–4 daily blogs. However, to my surprise, the more I posted, the fewer views I received. By the second month, I was averaging around 30 organic visitors daily.

It was a rollercoaster, and I realized success would take longer than I anticipated. As I felt the pressure of my savings running out, doubts started to creep in.

Yet, I knew quitting was not an option for me.

So, I reexamined my strategy to find a quicker way to monetize my writing. That’s when I stumbled upon freelance writing.

Newsbreak Contributor

After hours of research, I discovered a platform for independent writers called Newsbreak. Eagerly, I created an account and began writing. I needed to write ten articles and gain 100 followers to qualify for monetization.

I swiftly met these requirements within three days and applied for monetization. While the average review time was expected to be 25–35 days, 42 days passed without a response. Meanwhile, I continued writing daily for my blog.

Finally, after contacting support on day 45, I was approved that same week, allowing me to earn based on my writing performance. As you might expect, I was overjoyed!

By mid-August, I was actively writing 3–4 articles daily. That month, I earned a total of $2,343.50. I was amazed to be paid for doing what I loved and felt grateful for the opportunity to impact readers with my words.

Earnings by Author

Months later, I discovered Medium and created an account to share my experiences. The earnings from my second month as a freelancer were even more astonishing.
